15 things to keep you from giving up

From time to time, things may get a little difficult. You might not see a way out, and want to give up. You’ve been through so much and seen so much that you’ve lost the fight in you. But it is during these times that you need to find a reason to push through, because something significantly better awaits you at the other side of this situation.

Even if you think that you don’t have it in you to deal with something, and that nothing can be done, here are a few things that might be able to give you the push you need:

  1. ˜The right thing to do and the hard thing to do are usually the same’ Steve Maraboli

We all want things to be easy for us. And even though as tempting as it is, you need to make tough choices and live with the consequences. Be it any aspect of your life, the right thing to do will always prove to be the hardest.

In order to save ourselves from adversity, when the going gets tough, we try to convince ourselves that nothing should have to be this difficult. When in reality, nothing good ever comes easy.

  1. You’ve made it this far

We’ve all had those days where you’re feeling so defeated that you’re entirely convinced you won’t be able to make it. Maybe if you reminded yourself that you’re seeing this day only because you’ve managed to live through such days in the past, you might have some hope. If you could get through them, you can surely get through this one as well.

  1. Everything happens for a reason

If things aren’t going the way they should and nothing you do seems right, just remember that everything happens for a reason. Even if it doesn’t make sense in that moment of time, it will unfold eventually. Your choices, even if they appear to be wrong in the present circumstances, are setting you off in the right direction. You need to believe that everything will fall into place in due time.

  1. Choose your response to pain

There is no escaping pain. Somewhere, sometime or somehow you’re going to be faced with it. Pain generally instigates negative thoughts, which in turn worsens the situation. You allow yourself to wallow in it and hence don’t even look for a way out since you’ve led yourself to believe that there isn’t one.

You can control how you process your pain. It may not be easy or quick, but it’s doable. Keep the negative thoughts at bay, focus on finding a solution instead.

  1. Keep moving forward

Be it one tiny step at a time, just keep moving forward. You can’t allow yourself to be stuck in the same situation just because of your fears. There is no reward without any risk. Believe in yourself, and make the difficult choices.

  1. Don’t let anything hold you back

When you’ve finally convinced yourself to challenge yourself, don’t let any sort of setbacks keep you from moving forward. They are just minor hiccups. Sometimes you might not get it right in the first go, but you need to keep going. You alone have the power to hold yourself back and nothing/no one else.

  1. Live one day at a time

Don’t bring yourself down with unnecessary stress. You can’t change the past and you can never be sure of what the future holds. What you can do is take charge of the present. Do whatever you can to make the best of what is at hand. Deal with one day at a time.

  1. You can’t control everything

Instead of fretting over the things you have no control over, focus on the things you can control. The former will get you nowhere, but the latter will make you feel in charge. You’d actually be able to tackle all sorts of circumstances more efficiently.

  1. Don’t be afraid of failure

The only thing worse than failure is the regret that accompanies the decision to not even try. This fear may keep you from getting the most out of life. Don’t let it get the best of you. Face your fears and give it a shot!

  1. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes

So what if you made a mistake, you’re only human. It doesn’t have to be the end of the world. Mistakes are never pointless; you get to learn from them. At least it trumps not doing anything. You can get over the fear of making mistakes, by actually making one. Because then the only thing you could do then is come up with a way to fix it, and that would help build trust in your own abilities.

  1. If you want it, work for it

Stop making excuses and go after what you want with everything you have. That’s the only way of ever achieving anything. There are going to be hurdles and you might need to try more than once, but if you really want it, nothing will keep you from getting it.

  1. Giving up is not an option

What would you rather have? The regret of not having tried things differently or the satisfaction of finally having what you wanted. The latter is the obvious choice, but the former is the prevalent one. When starting out, you’re so determined that nothing in the world seems impossible, but as soon as something goes wrong, you give up hastily. Don’t quit so easily, find it in yourself to keep trying.

  1. Fulfil your potential

Dare to pursue the talent you’ve been gifted. Believe in yourself enough to open that package. Don’t let anything hold you back. You will need to struggle, but it’s going to be worth it in the end.

  1. Be persistently pursuant

Couldn’t get it right in the first go? Take a break, relax, and recharge yourself for the next attempt. It might take long, but you’ll have the results.

  1. Nothing happens overnight

You’ve been trying to be positive all along and haven’t given up even in the toughest of times, but things appear to be the same. It takes time for things to change, especially for the better. That’s the real test, to keep working for it with an optimistic attitude.

Be grateful for what you have. Never say never. Don’t be afraid of taking chances. Give yourself some credit and go easy on yourself. You can’t control everything, so don’t bother yourself. Work with what you have, and make the most of it. Things have a way of working out on their own, so just bear the difficult times to see better ones.
