12 Awkward Moments that happen in every New Relationship

9. The Discussion about Using Protection

Things are getting steamy and you want to take your relationship to the next level. But you’re not necessarily ready for bringing new life into the world yet, so you talk about using contraceptives. Yes. You have to have that talk, no matter how awkward it is.

10. The First Sexual Encounter

As magical as we want all our initial sexual encounters to be, that is very rarely the case. Most of the time, the first sexual experience can be very awkward. You’re not sure about the sexual styles and preferences of your partner and you’re worried too much about living up to their expectations. Like most things in life, it only gets better with time.

11. Waking Up Next to Each Other for the First Time

In connection with the previous two items on this list, this awkward moment is essentially the culmination of your first shared sexual experience. How do you go about it? Do you stay in bed and talk about the night you shared together or do you go on as if it was a perfectly natural experience?

12. The First Argument

The first argument between two people in a relationship can be a very difficult ordeal. It doesn’t necessarily even have to be a big argument. Minor disagreements can be the source for a substantial heaping of awkwardness. The first argument can also be a test for your relationship. How strong are your ties to withstand conflict and move on as a couple? Who makes the first move towards reconciliation? Just know that despite the severe awkwardness, it’s important to acknowledge that minor squabbles are normal parts of any relationship.

  1. I don’t understand what you mean in the exchange of gifts. You said’the best way of getting beyond the awkardness is just to not.
Just to not what? Not exchange or give a gift or just to not be awkward?

  2. None of these things are awkward with the right person. Everything should just flow naturally. It might feel “odd” that it’s so easy, yet that’s exactly what it should be- easy. Even the conflicts, discussions, and the disagreements are easy, and no ego is involved.
