Four days after their ninth wedding anniversary, Allison Holker’s life took a tragic turn, and her world turned upside down.
“It’s our 9th anniversary!!” Holker wrote on Instagram on December 10.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to celebrate this perfect magical day!!! Saying YES to @sir_twitch_alot has been one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life!! I feel so blessed and loved!! I love you, baby and I will never take you or OUR love for granted! I LOVE YOU.”
Boss also took to his Instagram and shared pictures from their reception. “Happy anniversary my love,” he wrote, along with several heart emojis.
And only three days later, on December 13, the freestyle hip-hop dancer, choreographer, and television personality was found dead in a hotel in Los Angeles.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband, Stephen, has left us,” Holker told the outlet. “Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends, and community above all else, and leading with love and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband, and father, and an inspiration to his fans,” Allison confirmed to PEOPLE.
The couple met for the first time in 2006 at a mutual friend’s party. However, Allison doesn’t remember meeting him at that party till today.
In 2010 the duo appeared in season 7 of the reality show, So You Think You Can Dance and was officially introduced to each other as co-stars.
They didn’t get along instantly but made friends with each other. However, at the season’s wrap party, they realized their affection for each other and developed a romantic relationship.
“We shared a dance at the wrap party of that season of So You Think You Can Dance and we have been together ever since,” Boss told PEOPLE.
“There was no dialogue, there was no conversation or a first hangout. Literally, we danced and we were together holding hands the very next day,” added Allison.
After dating for three years, Stephen and Allison tied the knot at SYTYCD creator Nigel Lythgoe’s Villa San-Juliette Vineyard & Winery in Paso Robles, Calif.
The couple shares two children together – son Maddox, 6, and daughter Zaia, 3.
After marrying Holker, Boss also became stepfather to her 14-year-old daughter, Weslie, from a previous relationship.
In February 2020, the love birds discussed parenting in an interview with PEOPLE Magazine and said they are very hands-on parents.
“[It’s] a little challenging [because] we have family in Utah and Arizona; our family’s spread out. But then also we have what would be our chosen family, our family friends in L.A., that are always there to help. And also we have nannies. And it does — it takes a whole village to run this thing,” Stephen told the publication.
“I will say, as parents, we’re very, very hands-on parents. But as many people that you can have there to help you out with your kids — to love them, to share joy with them and laughter — it’s a win-win for everyone,” said Holker.
In March 2020, a few days before the pandemic hit the world and shutting everything down, Allison spoke to E! News in an interview and said that Boss was the most genuine human she had ever met.
“He’s exactly who you see on TV in real life. He’s not putting on a fake character, he’s not doing or saying anything if he knows he’s gonna get a laugh. He’s 100 percent the most gentle, nicest, most generous human that I’ve ever met in my entire life, through and through.”
In February 2022, Allison told PEOPLE that after dating Boss for only three weeks, she realized that he was her ‘happily ever after.’
“Three weeks into us dating, I told him that he was my one. I was so confident.”
On December 5, 2022, the charming couple made their last red carpet appearance as they attended the Critics Choice Association 5th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema & Television.
