Reportedly, the embattled actor is currently in France and is preparing to appear in a movie after three years.
“It was first reported in January that Depp had been cast as French king Louis XV in Maïwenn Le Besco’s new historical drama, titled Jeanne du Barry. While she will star as Louis XV’s last mistress, Jeanne du Barry.” Unilad reported.
This would be his first film after his long and intense legal battle against ex-wife Amber Heard.
According to Daily Mail, fans initially couldn’t recognize him when they saw his new still from the movie; he was pictured wearing a blindfold and a vintage blond wig.
“The film star was dressed in 18th-century clothing as he sported a gold regal jacket with a high collar and a white shirt. The actor also looked noticeably paler in the image and he appeared to have reddened lips.”
The 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean actor will play the character of the French Monarch along with Maiwenn Le Besco – the director and one of the film’s lead characters. She is playing the role of Louis’s mistress in the movie.
Jeanne Du Barry is Johnny’s first ever movie in French and is set to be released in 2023.
The shooting of the film has already begun, and according to some sources, the production team claims that it will take them less than a year to complete the filming.
“The story follows title character Jeanne, a working-class woman who climbs the Paris social hierarchy and eventually comes to the attention of King Louis XV.” Quoted Daily Mail.
The news came while Depp’s attorneys were still dealing with his remaining legal affairs against Amber Heard. Last month, the actress filed an appeal against the Jury’s verdict in the Virginia Court of Appeals.
“We believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment. We are therefore appealing the verdict.
“While we realize today’s filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice.” Heard’s spokesperson stated on her behalf.
The step was taken just after a week when the Judge denied Heard’s request for a new trial.
Following her appeal, Depp’s attorneys filed a counter-appeal and told the media outlets that they were confident the court’s decision would stand.
“The jury listened to the extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and came to a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself defamed Mr. Depp in multiple instances. We remain confident in our case and that this verdict will stand.”
While their legal battle is apparently still ongoing, it seems like Johnny has already moved on from it and is ready to embark on new adventures.
After his epic win against Amber in June, some rumors circulated on social media that Johnny would appear in the next Pirates film. However, one of his representatives later denied the news and said he wouldn’t even consider it.
