The family Saga of Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Shannon and June “Mama June” and the rest of the crew has been on the television for over a decade now.
From Toddlers and Tiaras to Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and Mama June’s new sequels, people watched them become true reality stars.
According to reports, Mama June Shannon has lost custody of her daughter Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson.
The American reality TV actress Honey Boo Boo, who is only 16 years old, has been a central part of this legal fight between her 42-year-old mother, Mama June Shannon, and her 22-year-old sister, Lauryn Efird, in the last few months.
The court granted Alana’s custody to elder sister Pumpkin Shannon. According to the documents reported by The Sun US and obtained by Page Six, Mama June is allowed to contact Alana through telephone every day; however, she will only be able to visit her with Pumpkin’s permission.
Mama June also has to pay monthly 800 dollars to Pumpkin for Alana until she turns 18.
The court proceedings also revealed that Alana had already been living with her older sister Lauryn and her husband, Josh Efird, 25, since 2019, when Mama June first lost custody of Honey Boo Boo.
Three years ago, Mama June was arrested along with her then-boyfriend, Eugene Edward “Geno” Doak, for possessing a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Eugene was also charged with third-degree domestic violence and keeping a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
At this point, her life took a terrible turn, and she even had to sell her home for money as she had no other source of survival. Later, she was hit with felony charges along with her boyfriend.
After her mom’s arrest, Alana started living with Pumpkin and her husband, Joshua Efird. The couple has two children, a daughter, and a son.
In May 2019, during the season finale of Mama June: From Not to Hot, Mama June’s family staged an intervention two days before her arrest. During the intervention, Alana cried and told her mama that living with Pumpkin was not her choice.
“I would love to come home and stay with you, tell you about my day, but I can’t do that because I’m scared. I’m scared to stay at your house,” she said. “I just want mama back.”
While talking about Alana’s custody, Pumpkin said that things have been difficult for her as she has two children of her own, and then there’s Alana, who’s also a little girl and needs her mom. It has been difficult for both her and Alana to adjust to each other.
“My mother has four kids. Three of us are grown-ups and can take care of ourselves and cook for ourselves, and we all pay our bills. But Alana’s still 14, and she needs her mom,” Pumpkin told Entertainment Tonight.
“It’s been challenging because… she is younger and needs her mom. So it’s been very hard for both her and me to adjust.”
