Almost time to get married!
American artistic gymnast Simone Biles and her fiancé, Jonathan Owens, obtained their marriage license in Texas on Friday.
The announcement was made on Instagram, where Biles uploaded a picture of the happy couple posing with their marriage license and wrote,
“Almost time to say, I do.”
“The document was shown to have been issued in Montgomery County in the state of Texas, where the couple is planning to exchange vows,” per PEOPLE.
“The pair, who haven’t shared the date of their upcoming wedding yet, opted to go casual as they received the document. One full-body photo shared outside the county offices posted on Biles’ Instagram Story shows the pair smiling and posing while once again holding up the license proudly.”
The announcement comes over a year after the pair announced their engagement on social media.
“THE EASIEST YES,” Simone wrote on her Instagram last year in February.
“I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! let’s get married FIANCÉ.”
The post included a series of photos of Biles saying yes to Owens, 27, who popped the question to her in a traditional manner.
After accepting his proposal, Biles kissed her beau, flaunted her “3 carat oval diamond” ring, and shared a close-up video of the jewel for her over 6 million followers.
“I’m always wearing it,” she told Today in a recent interview. “I had to wash my hair the other day, and I took it off just in case; I didn’t know if it was gonna get caught or anything. I have to ask my mom like, ‘When do you take it off? Do you ever take it off?’ but it definitely beats a gold medal.”
The duo started going out in August 2020 after connecting via social media in March of that year, just before the pandemic hit.
“He would say I slid into his DMs,” Biles told the Wall Street Journal. “I saw him and I was like, “Oh, he’s pretty cute,” so I said hi. And then I saw that he was in the Houston area, so we started chatting a little bit, and then we went to hang out a week or two later.”
In another interview with E! News, the four-time Olympic gold medalist said she knew he (Owens) was the one when she first met his mother.
“I knew he was the one when I first met his mom,” she said. “She has a little bit of a disability with her walking, she’s gotten a lot stronger, but how he treated his mother and how he treats women, I was like, ‘Wow.'”
