The rocker, 38, ended her four-month romance with the American rapper, 33, and reports claim that she only used him as a rebound to get over her toxic split with ex-fiancé, Mod Sun.
According to a source close to the Girlfriend singer, ‘she didn’t want to be tied down in a relationship with Tyga as she only saw it as a rebound relationship.’
“It came down to this. Avril didn’t want to be locked into anything. Tyga was a rebound and he helped her get away from her toxic relationship with Mod Sun,” a source revealed to Daily Mail.
“Avril didn’t cheat on Mod. She was simply over his BS, and Tyga was an easy distraction,” the insider added. “They come from different worlds, and their worlds do not overlap. It was good for what it was.”
TMZ reported that the 38-year-old Girlfriend singer and the 33-year-old Ayo rapper split ‘weeks ago’ but are still friends.
“Sources tell us the two musicians — who went public with their relationship in March — recently went their separate ways … having split a couple weeks ago. We’re told it was a mutual decision, and that there are no hard feelings — the romance just ran its course.”
Their split comes after Lavigne finished the final date of her Love Sux world tour in May. Meanwhile, Tyga, real name Michael Ray Stevenson is currently working on his new music.
The pair started dating after Avril called it quits with her fiancé, Mod Sun, a year after their engagement.
The split follows photos that emerged of Avril having dinner with Tyga and a group of friends at NOBU in Malibu, California, during President’s Day weekend. Nevertheless, a source close to the situation has stated that the two are mere “just friends.”
According to Page Six, the split came as a surprise to the Karma singer, 35.
“They were together and engaged as of three days ago when he left for tour, so if anything has changed, that’s news to him,” his representative told the outlet.
The spokesperson also said that the multi-instrumentalist had no plans of canceling his tour or slow down work. “The show will happen tonight and tomorrow and for the rest of the tour,” he added.
TMZ reported that Lavigne didn’t breakup with the rapper due to any cheating rumors.
Avrilo and Mod Sun were first romantically linked in December 2020.
According to Daily Mail, another source close to the Wish You Were Here singer revealed that she needed the ‘rebound relationship’ with Tyga to get out of her headspace after her breakup with Mod Sun.
“Avril feels like she got out of her brief fling with Tyga exactly what she needed. She was not in a rush to get into it and she wasn’t in a rush to get out of it. She also isn’t in a rush to get into a new relationship with anyone,” the source told the British tabloid.
“She just needed this relationship to get out of the headspace she was in. It motivated her to move on from Mod Sun and proved to her that she still could find love or in this case lust if needed.”
The insider concluded, “She isn’t going to be talking s*** about Tyga. She’s perfectly okay with it being over and is going to look forward to being single. She doesn’t feel jaded with the situation one bit.”
