This story is about a hero named Rhys Langford, a 19-year-old teenager who had been battling cancer and donated £1,000 of his own savings to save another boy, Jacob Jones, before cancer took Rhys’ life.

Real-Life Superheroes Don’t Wear Capes

Rhys Langford is from Ebbw Vale, Wales, UK. He was 19-years-old when he passed away from osteosarcoma – a cancer of the bones. He fought his battle against cancer for quite some time, but it eventually came back to take his life on February 8th, 2022.

But before passing away, Rhys found out about a six-year-old boy named Jacob Jones who had been fighting a rare form of cancer called neuroblastoma – a type of cancer that starts in early nerve cells of the body.

He donated his own savings worth £1,000 and started a GoFundMe for Jacob, a boy he had never met but wanted to save.

Rhys’ mom posted a tribute for her son on social media, saying:

“My warrior, my hero, my son, my baby, has given up his fight. He lay down his sword and died peacefully at home with all his family around him.

“He closed his eyes for the last time at around 7pm yesterday evening 08/02/2022. We are heartbroken. My life will never be the same again. A part of me has died also. He battled a long hard fight.”

According to WalesOnline, Jacob’s family stated on the tragic event:

“We are deeply sad and upset. The love, compassion, strength and courage Rhys shared was unbelievable. He will never be forgotten and because of his kindness Jacob will have a better chance of battling whatever he is faced with.

“We will never be able show how much Rhys and his family mean to us. We are overwhelmed by the fundraising by Rhys and we are heartbroken and our thoughts are with his family.”

The GoFundMe campaign Rhys started has gained over £64,000 to help Jacob fight his rare cancer. It is still active, and you can pitch in by going to their GoFundMe campaign here and make Rhys’ dying wish come true!

Jacob’s family has even made a Facebook page to follow his journey called “Jacob’s Fight.”
