5 Lessons That You Learn When You Catch Your Partner Cheating On You

What did you learn after getting cheated on?

Cheating and infidelity can be very difficult to deal with in a relationship especially when you’re the victim in the situation. You never know how to react especially when you are blindsided by the whole scenario. Do you give your partner a second chance? Is this a deal breaker and does this signify the end of your relationship? Do you blame the 3rd party and should you take vengeance? How are you going to react to this? There is a rush of questions that run through a person’s mind during this sketchy situation and that’s perfectly understandable. But at the end of the day, the relationship is just never going to be the same. Either it’s going to end or some substantial changes are going to take place in the dynamics of a relationship.

Getting cheated on is very difficult. You can become very emotional and for a very good reason. You feel like you’ve been betrayed on both a physical and emotional level. There has been a breach of trust in your life and you don’t know what to do with it. You feel like your emotional senses have been compromised and you don’t know how to bring them back up to where they used to be. In essence, you feel like you’ve been broken and you are finding a way to piece yourself back together.  But as all great people do, you have to merely see this setback as a learning experience. You have to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Take all of the negative energy and bad feelings that you have now and turn them into something productive. Have an eye for the future and don’t succumb to the darkness. Try as much as possible to maintain a positive attitude about this no matter how difficult it may be. At the end of the day, life is going to go on and you still have a role to play in it. Now whether or not that role is something that you’re going to like is up to you. That’s why you have to be on top of your game. Yes, getting cheated on was terrible, but don’t make a bad situation worse by not learning from it. Here are a few lessons that you can pick up after you catch your partner cheating on you.

1. Never settle for someone else’s leftovers.

You shouldn’t be begging for scraps. If you know that you aren’t being prioritized in a relationship, then you should gather the strength and courage to just walk away from it. You were cheated on and it may have caught you by surprise but the signs were there. You just chose not to pay them any attention. You let your emotions cloud your judgement. If your partner is starting to prioritize other things in life over you, then maybe it’s because you just aren’t a priority to him at all. He would have no problem cheating on you because he wouldn’t care about how it would make you feel.

2. It’s much better to be single than it is to be unhappy in a relationship.

If things were going very well in your relationship, then it is highly unlikely that your partner would cheat on you unless he were an actual sex-deprived psychopath. But again, the signs of cheating should have been there early on. He would have been emotionally and physically distant. You would have felt a tinge of unhappiness and discontent in your relationship. Your chemistry was way off and you knew it deep down inside, but you were afraid to end things because you were afraid of being single and alone. But in the end, the relationship still concluded in substantial heartbreak because you didn’t have the courage to walk away.

3. Your instinct is your best friend.

Always learn to just trust your gut. Whenever your spider sense is tingling, never be afraid to act on it. You don’t have to be so drastic so as to launch a full scale investigation, but you should still remain vigilant. Pick your spots and seek out the signs. Your instincts are put in place to protect you and you should learn to trust them

4. Keep your emotions in check.

As emotionally tumultuous as it can be to be cheated on in a relationship, you have to learn how to keep your emotions in check. You have to be able to act rationally in a relationship and you can’t let your emotions get the best of you. You don’t want to give him any reason to label you as the crazy girlfriend who just makes suspicions out of thin air.

5. Don’t waste your tears over someone who isn’t worthy of them.

Yes, getting cheated on can hurt. But obviously, this person didn’t care about you as much as he should have. And you shouldn’t be wasting your tears over someone who doesn’t care about you.
