6 Fitness Hacks For People Who Like To Travel A Lot

A lot of the time, a trip or a vacation somewhere can really mess up a person’s diet and fitness routine. Think about it. You’re on vacation. And so you like to treat yourself to a little more food here and there because you want to taste the local cuisine. You feel lazy and you don’t want to hit the gym because you’re supposed to be resting and relaxing on this vacation.

But then you go home and you find yourself feeling guilty for not keeping your diet and your fitness on point during your trip.

What do you do? Is there a real middle-ground between having fun and not completely letting yourself go?

When you go on a vacation, you get an opportunity to escape from the world that you typically know. You immerse yourself in a new environment. You meet new people. You taste new food. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t use a vacation as an opportunity for you to still keep in shape.

If you are genuinely interested in making sure that you stay lean and tight in spite of the fact that you are off on a holiday, then this article is definitely the one for you.

And it doesn’t matter whether you’re a fitness buff who really takes health and wellness seriously or you’re just a casual vacationer who doesn’t want to get too bloated once the trip is over. These tips are for you because they are easy enough to do and they’re very effective.

Here are a few examples of fitness hacks for you to do while you’re out on a vacation.

1. Eat more seafood instead of pork and beef.

Whenever you get an opportunity to do so, always go for a seafood option instead of pork and beef. Seafood has a tendency to make you feel fuller for longer. And they have much fewer calories than both pork and beef.

2. Walk with intent and with a purpose.

Walking. You can walk, right? And yes. Walking does help you burn off those calories. But that’s not the only advantage of walking a lot while you’re on vacation. You’re going to get to save a lot of money by walking instead of taking cabs or buses all the time. Plus, you get a chance to really get to know this place that you’re in.

3. Replace sodas and alcohol with water and fruit smoothies.

You might be tempted to just completely go crazy with the beer or the cocktails. But just know that there are a lot of calories in these drinks that will end up adding to your gut. So, instead of just completely losing yourself to alcoholic beverages, stick to water, coffee, or tea.

Occasionally, you can treat yourself to the healthy fruit smoothie as well.

4. Do bodyweight exercises right away when you wake up.

Usually, there are two big problems that people have when they travel which keep them from staying fit and active. One, they might not always have access to a gym or fancy fitness equipment. Two, they might not find the time in their busy itineraries to go to the gym anyway.

Well, that’s something that a few bodyweight exercises can solve. Right when you wake up before you do anything else, just perform a few squats, pushups, jumping jacks, and lunges. These are great bodyweight exercises to get your heart rate up and keep those muscles working. And the point of doing them right when you wake up is that you get them out of the way immediately.

5. Go for a run around the city.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re an experienced runner or you just like to run on your spare time. Running is something that anyone with two healthy functioning legs can do. And if you manage to wake up early in the morning (or before you have dinner at night), try to go for a run around the city.

When you run, you get a really nice and immersive way to experience the place that you’re in. And at the same time, you are burning off those calories as well. So just lace up those shoes and go for a 30-minute job. That effort can go a long way.

6. Swim.

If you happen to be vacationing to a beach (or if your hotel has a pool), go ahead and dip into the waters for a swim. Not only is swimming very relaxing and fun; but it’s also going to be able to help you burn off those extra calories. You’re already in the water and you’re enjoying the pool. You might as well get a good workout out of it.

It’s a really fun way to just get that heart rate up while on vacation and you don’t really need all that extra gear. Just put on your swimsuit (and maybe some sunblock), and you’ll be ready to go.
