How are you at first impressions?
It’s something that’s been repeatedly told to us over and over again, first impressions never change. It’s one of the most popular phrases in all of humanity. And as a result, a lot of people tend to put loads of pressure on themselves to actually make a good impression on the people that they meet for the first time.
We have always been taught to try our best to project the best possible versions of ourselves whenever we meet someone new. We make it a point to always try to come off as charming, amiable, kind, and genuine as much as possible whenever we’re tasked to make a good first impression. Things get even more intense whenever first meetings carry much social weight and implications. For instance, perhaps you’re single and you’re dating someone for the very first time and you always want to make sure that you project yourself as someone who makes for great relationship material. Perhaps you’re in a search for a job and you’re meeting for your dream company’s HR head for the first time. The higher the stakes, the greater the pressure it is to actually create a positive impact with your personality.
So where do you fall on the spectrum with regards to first impressions? Are you the type of person who people can really warm up to quickly? Or does it take a lot of time before anyone can really be comfortable with your personality? Regardless, there’s always a really good advantage for those who are able to make positive impressions on the very first meetings. It’s just so much easier for them to actually build relationships with people especially those who don’t have the patience to really get to know you before they decide that you’re worth having a relationship with.
And as always, the universe has already got our backs. The Zodiac Signs can give us a pretty good idea of where we stand as far as first impressions are concerned. If you’re good at it, then great, you can use that knowledge of your strength to your advantage. But if you’re bad at first impressions, then at least you know that the problem exists and you can do your part in actually trying to fix things. Leo (July 23 – August 22)
You’re just too full of yourself and that’s why you tend to make bad first impressions. You are very confident and there are plenty of things about you to be proud of but you can’t always expect other people to share your enthusiasm about yourself. You have to be able to express an interest in the person you’re meeting as well. It can’t just be all about you.
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
As an Aries, you’re a competitive spirit. You are always looking to one-up anyone you meet and that can sometimes be detrimental to your relationships. You come off as overly aggressive whenever you meet someone for the first time. Try toning your intensity down a few notches and let a person be comfortable with you first.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
You are too nice for your own good and that’s why you tend to leave bad first impressions. It’s complicated, right? As a Sagittarius, you would think that being nice would get people to like you. But no, there’s one thing that people hate more than those who aren’t nice: it’s those who are fake. Stop acting so fake. You don’t have to feign an interest in a person’s career goals even though you’re not genuinely interested in them. They can tell when you’re being fake.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
You are an acquired taste as a Pisces and it just really takes some time for people to warm up to your personality. You are very emotional and empathetic, but not a lot of people are comfortable with getting emotionally deep with you right away. That’s why you just really have to pick your spots and time your friendliness at the most opportune moments.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Your social self is also the reason why you have a tendency to leave bad impressions. As a Libra, you seem almost too good to be true. You have lots of friends and so people who are meeting you for the first time will be skeptical of just how great your personality is. And you definitely have an over-the-top kind of character that needs to be subdued every once in a while.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
Stop trying to help others too eagerly. As a Capricorn, you are the type of person who would be giving important life advice to someone you’re just meeting for the first time. It comes off as nosy and imposing. It’s not your place. Just keep things chill and don’t offer any help unless anyone actually asks for it.
