Depression is definitely not a force that people should be belittling or taking lightly. It is a very serious mental health condition that severely affects a lot of people.
The World Health Organization actually says that more than 350 million people all around the world are suffering from depression. But here’s the kicker, that’s only 350 million people who are actually diagnosed with it.
There are so many people in this world who are suffering from depression and they haven’t even been diagnosed for it. And there can be a number of reasons why people might choose to silently suffer through their depression.
They might be embarrassed or ashamed of their disease. They might be too proud to come to terms with the reality of their situation. Or they might just not really be aware that they’re dealing with a very serious mental illness, to begin with.
It’s always a problem when the person who is suffering from depression doesn’t even know that they are going through a very serious problem. It makes the depression even more dangerous.
It’s just that some people just don’t know how to express their feelings and emotions in a clear and constructive manner. And that’s why we always need to be staying mindful of these kinds of people.
We always want to make sure that we are treading lightly because we never really know what another person might be going through in their lives. We always have to watch out for signs that other people might be depressed.
“Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the burden. It is easier to say, “My tooth is aching” than to say “My heart is broken”.” – Anonymous
