Having a sibling can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, they’re a huge pain in the butt, and on the other, they’re the most important people in your life. They’re your team mates when you’re at odds with your parents. They’re practically an extension of who you are. They’re your original best friends. Depending on where you fall in the family line of siblings, you play different roles in the family.
If you’re the older sibling, it can be tiring. You bear the most responsibilities because you’re the eldest. You’re expected to be the mature one of the bunch. You always have to be the one who sets a good example. These are roles that you have accepted whether willingly or not. However, there are advantages to being an older sibling too. You get to be the boss of your other siblings. You have the seniority advantage. There are countless aspects of the sibling relationship dynamic. Things can get very interesting most especially when you have a younger brother.
Here are 9 things that happen when you have a younger brother around the house:
1. You Fight All The Time
You’re the older sister. He’s the younger brother. Your differences are virtually limitless. You fight and bicker constantly about everything. Your parents have their work cut out for them acting as peacekeepers between the both of you. You find yourself being constantly irritated by his presence in your life and you ask the gods why they have placed such a burden upon you. You think of your little brother as a punishment for all of your sins.
2. You Miss Him When He’s Not Around
But despite him being the constant pain in the butt that he is, you miss him whenever he’s not around. If he’s out for the whole summer for summer camp, or when you have to leave home for college, you start missing his presence. Sure, he’s an annoying little prick, but he’s also the reason why you have so much color and excitement in your life.В – Continue reading on the next page
3. He’s The Reason You Are Never Bored
He’s a little ball of energy. He always has been ever since he was born. That’s partly why he’s so irritating, but you live with it because he’s been the source of constant entertainment in your life. He’s always getting himself into trouble with your parents and you find it absolutely hilarious. His impact on your life is only magnified whenever you’re away from him for a prolonged period of time.
4. You’d Defend Him Against Anyone
He’s your little baby. It doesn’t matter if he’s bigger and more muscular than you. No one gets to mess with him except for you. If anyone picks on him or hurts his feelings, you’re ready to unleash your sisterly wrath on whoever is victimizing him. No matter how old he gets you’ll always feel protective of him because it’s a role you’ve practically learned to embrace and love.
5. You Secretly Love It When He Comes To You For Advice
You find it absolutely adorable when he comes to you for advice about relationships, school, or about his career when he’s older. It doesn’t matter what he needs advice on. You get touched because he acknowledges your importance as the elder sister who can help him out with his problems in life.
6. You Know He Has Your Back Because He’s Super Protective Of You
The same way that you’re super protective of him, he’s also willing to defend you against anything or anyone that gets in your way. If your boyfriend is treating you terribly, he’ll probably be the first one to put your douchebag boyfriend in his place. Your little brother would never want to see you get hurt because it secretly pains him to see you sad.В – Continue reading on the next page
7. You Always Want Your Brother and Boyfriend to Get Along
Next to your dad, your brother is probably the other most important male figure in your life. That’s why it’s absolutely important for you to have your boyfriend and brother be in good terms. You wish that they’d establish a buddy relationship and get along well whenever they’re together. You don’t want to be put in a position where you’re made to choose between them.
8. You Like To Spoil Him Every Once In A While Because He’ll Always Be A Baby In Your Eyes
You like to baby him. You like to pamper him. You’d get him all of his desires if you could because that’s your natural instinct as an older sister. You think he deserves the world and would do absolutely anything just to make him happy. That feeling will carry over even as you get older.
9. You Feel Like a Second Mother To Him
Other than being a sister, you also serve as a second mother to him. It’s your maternal instinct. He’s the first life you’ve ever felt responsible for and you take that responsibility seriously. You always want what is best for him and you try your best to guide him on the best path to happiness.
