99-Year-Old Man Divorced Wife of 70 Years After Discovering Secret Love Letters From her Affair 60 Years Ago

An upset 99-year-old man decided to end his marriage of 77 years because he found out that his wife had cheated on him over 60 years ago.

In 2011, a 99-year-old man named Antonio C. from Italy showed how seriously he takes marriage. Just before Christmas, Antonio found out that his wife, Rosa C., had kept love letters from another man she dated in the 1940s.

Antonio talked to Rosa about it, and she admitted to having an affair over 60 years ago. This upset Antonio so much that he asked for a divorce, ending their 77-year relationship.

Rosa tried to persuade Antonio not to divorce her, pointing out that they had spent most of their lives together. But Antonio was firm and went ahead with filing for divorce.

The couple got married in Naples back in 1934. Antonio met Rosa while he was serving in the Carabinieri paramilitary police there. However, ten years later, Rosa had an affair with someone else, which she kept secret until recently.

The love letters were discovered in an old chest of drawers, and this discovery seemed to be the tipping point. A few reports said their relationship had been turbulent for quite some time.

“The husband decided to file for divorce after finding the love letters,” said Lawyer Anna Orecchioni.

“He felt betrayed and unable to carry on with the marriage which has lasted 77 years. It made no difference that the letters were written more than 60 years ago and the relationship has been over for decades.”

The story has resurfaced on social media, sparking discussions among users who are sharing their thoughts and opinions on the matter.

Many people expressed sympathy for the elderly man, understanding that he must have been deeply hurt by the discovery of the affair, even though it happened many years ago.

“Damn, this must break his heart so much that he can’t stand the marriage again. Such a pity,” one person commented.

“He clearly took his marriage vows seriously, and that was a deep betrayal of trust. At a time in life when you are deeply aware of your own mortality and heightened sense of authenticity,” a second added.

Some people managed to find humor in the unusual ending of the relationship, seeing a lighter side to the situation.

“He’s still young and can bounce back from this. He can meet someone else and still have kids before he’s 103. He can focus on himself now. Maybe explore a new hobby, like golf, or perhaps plan his own funeral. The world is his oyster now,” someone wrote.
