Your relationship can still be saved.
A relationship is always going to be a roller-coaster. It’s not always going to be all good. It’s not always going to be positive. It’s not always going to be easy. And if you’re not mature enough to understand that, then you’re not mature enough to actually be in a relationship at all. It’s normal for a relationship to have to go through rough patches. It’s normal for the relationship to exist with its bad parts and its imperfections. It’s just important that the good parts are always enough to make the bad stuff worth it. And if that’s not the case, then the relationship just isn’t worth wasting time and effort on anymore. But how can you know for sure when it’s time to let a relationship go?
We are always taught that it’s important to fight for the things that we want most in life. We are always taught that we have to try to fix the things that break in our relationship; and that we can’t just throw them away whenever things get too difficult. But it also gets to a point where you have to know when to walk away. There are just some relationships that are beyond fixing and that’s the sad truth of a situation. And rather than wasting one another’s time by beating an already dead horse, it would be better to just move on instead.
When people enter into relationships, it’s likely that they have the best intentions. A sane person would always want to go into a relationship with a lot of hope. No normal person would ever willingly get with someone thinking that they’re probably not going to be able to make things work down the line. And that’s why it can be very difficult to make the decision to actually end the relationship. You become so emotionally invested in it and you genuinely try your best; but sometimes, your best just isn’t enough and you have to call it quits even when you don’t want to.
There is a certain grief that comes with growing attached to a person. The grief lies in knowing that eventually, you are going to have to learn to detach yourself from this person should things turn sour. It’s the only way you could ever be happy after breaking up. But detachment is always easier said than done. You give so much of yourself to your relationship, and you genuinely hoped that everything would turn out fine. But it didn’t. And you’re left with nothing but a broken heart to show for it. It’s hard to let go of something that you grow accustomed to. And so no one can blame you for wanting to try to make things work as much as possible.
And that’s why it’s always important for you to be able to assess your odds. You need to know if you still have a relationship that’s worth fighting for; or if you should just both cut your losses at this point and try to move on from one another. But how can you tell for sure? Well, a couple therapist has recently released a definitive list of signs that can help tell you if you’re still in a relationship that can still be saved. You just have to make sure that you stay vigilant and you watch out for these signs. If the items that are listed on here still apply to your relationship, then you still have a shot at making things work no matter how grim everything might seem.
1. You both still find development and growth in your relationship.
You are both still constantly growing and learning and with that growth, you could become a couple that actually learns to overcome your trials.
2. You both still genuinely care about each other’s feelings.
You both still have a deep investment in one another and you don’t want to let it go to waste.
3. You both still have a healthy sense of humor.
A sense of humor can really go a long way. If there are still some things that the both of you can laugh about in your relationship, then that means that not everything is all bad. You can still find happiness in one another.
4. You both still think it important to remember why you first fell in love with one another.
This is a good sign because it shows that neither of you have forgotten about the roots and foundation of your relationship.
5. You both still manage to squeeze out these little moments of comfort.
These moments are precious because they signify a ray of hope amidst all of the darkness.
6. You both still know that you’re willing to work things out because you believe in the future of your relationship.
Sometimes, persistence and commitment can still be enough to save the relationship. Everything can look like you’re bound for a breakup. But if neither of you give in, then you’re always going to have the power to sustain the relationship. At the end of the day, you are really the only ones who have the final say in the matter.
