A juror from the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial spoke exclusively to Good Morning America about the verdict. The jury ruled that Heard defamed Depp using an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post in 2018 referencing her past domestic violence allegations. The judge ordered him to pay $10.35 million in damages to Depp.
The juror, who was one of five men on the seven-member jury, told GMA he didn’t feel the emotional testimony Heard gave during the trial was realistic.
The juror said: “The crying, the facial expressions that she had, the staring at the jury. All of us were very uncomfortable. She would answer one question and she would be crying, and two seconds later she would turn ice cold. Some of us used the expression ‘crocodile tears.’“
According to the unnamed juror, jury members felt much of Heard’s story didn’t add up, the majority of which believed she had been the aggressor. He said:
“A lot of the jury felt what [Depp] was saying, at the end of the day, was more believable. He just seemed a little more real in terms of how he was responding to questions. His emotional state was very stable throughout.”
The juror stated that when it came to deciding their verdict, he and his fellow jurors “followed the evidence” and denied that the group was influenced by social media.
People and Deadline report that the juror said: “Social media did not impact us. We followed the evidence. We didn’t take into account anything outside [the courtroom]. We only looked at the evidence…They were very serious accusations and a lot of money was involved. So we weren’t taking it lightly.”
“Ultimately what I think is truthful is that they were both abusive to each other. I don’t think that makes either of them right or wrong. But to rise to the level of what she was claiming, there wasn’t enough or any evidence that really supported what she was saying.”
According to the unnamed juror, a further smoking gun revealed that Heard had not donated the $7 million divorce settlement to charity as she had pledged.
He described the situation as a “fiasco” for Heard:
“She goes on a talk show in the U.K. The video shows her sitting there telling the host that she gave all that money away, and the terms she used in that video clip were, ‘I gave it away,’ ‘I donated it,’ ‘It’s gone,’ but the fact is she didn’t give much of it away at all.”
I’m glad a juror stated they went by Heards testimony. They also saw the fake tears.
What a job trying to discrne through all the evidence. Great job jurors!! Especially having to hear and sit through all her lies. Not a good actress either.
