Andie MacDowell, 64, is Happier with her ‘Silver Hair’ as She Loves Embracing her Natural Beauty

Rosalie Anderson MacDowell, popularly known as Andie MacDowell, is a famous former fashion model and Hollywood actress from America.

Besides modeling, MacDowell is known for her iconic roles in several romcoms and dramas like Maid, The Way Home, Ready or Not, Green Card, Groundhog Day, Footloose, Cedar Cove, Magic Mike XXL, Christmas Inheritance, and Hudson Hawk.

Andie married twice in her life – in 1986, she married former model Paul Qualley with whom she shares three children, Justin, 36, Rainey, 32, and Margaret, 27.

After nearly thirteen years of marriage, the couple parted ways in 1999.

In 2001, MacDowell remarried a businessman named Rhett Hartzog. However, her second marriage also ended with a divorce in 2004.

Three years ago, during the covid-19 lockdown season, the 64-year-old Ready or Not superstar stopped dying her hair because she wanted to embrace her natural beauty.

“My sister’s full-on silver, and she’s only 18 months older than me. I thought she looked so much more beautiful, being silver. I was jealous,” she told PEOPLE.

“During COVID, I could see the roots with my face and with my skin and my eyes, and I liked it. I felt that I would be happier. And I am happier. I really like it,” the L’Oréal Paris international spokeswoman continued.

“I’m 64, and this is the time of my life. Eventually, I’m going to be silver. And I wanted to have this experience of feeling what it is.”

MacDowell emphasized that embracing your natural hair color is a big part of self-acceptance and being content in your own skin.

“Your belly gets bigger as you get older too. And I’ve had three babies,” she said. “I’m constantly having to work on loving that part of my body. It’s so hard.”

In 2021, during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Andie said that she loved her silver strands so much, and her daughters told her that she looked so badass in her natural hair.

“I wasn’t coloring my hair and you could see my roots, and my daughters [Rainey and Margaret Qualley] kept telling me that I looked badass. And that idea that I could look badass appealed to me. So I went for it, and I’m loving it.”

Adding that she would always correct people that she had silver hair, not gray, the former model said, “It’s not gray, it’s silver.” And wants to dispel the inclination people have about those who embrace a natural look. “It’s not that I’m letting myself go, I don’t think of it that way.”

The mum-of-three continued, “When I first did it I went to the grocery store because we had no place to go and I thought I looked good, and I saw a man there — a ‘silver fox’ guy. A guy you see and go ‘he’s a silver fox.’ And I immediately just put my shoulders back, and I was like, ‘and so am I.’ We kind of shot a look at each other and I was like, ‘I’m a silver fox.’”

The Groundhog Day alum said that she isn’t sure if she will keep her hair silver forever, but for now, she is satisfied with how they look.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in five years, I may color my hair again. But I’m enjoying it right now.”
