Angelina Jolie’s big brother, James Haven, spilled the beans in a super rare interview about his relationship with the famous actress. He chatted on the 90who10 podcast, sharing how he stepped up big time when Angelina went through her tough split and long divorce with Brad Pitt.
The 52-year-old actor said that he had taken it upon himself to look out for Angelina’s six kids during all the craziness. With the divorce drama and all the not-so-great stories in the news about Angelina and Brad, James felt like he needed to be their superhero.
And get this – the last time we saw James was hanging out with his dad, Jon Voight, in October 2022. Talk about family time! James spilled the tea on how he felt the responsibility to ‘protect’ his sister’s kids during the whole messy divorce drama.
Let’s dive into James Haven’s chat about his bond with Angelina lately and how he dealt with her big, public breakup. According to Too Fab, James spilled the beans, saying, “That’s where it all started, it started with the protection of her and then of her children, my nieces and nephews.”
It looks like James and his sister kicked off a fresh chapter in their relationship after her split.
“Those are the years that shape you big time, turning into young adults in their early 20s,” James spilled, talking about Angelina’s kids.
The Salt superstar has Maddox (22), Pax (20), Zahara (18), Shiloh (17), and twins Knox and Vivienne (15) with her ex Brad.
“It’s kinda crazy, right? But yeah, feeling protective is just so natural. I just want to be there,” he added. “It’s a lot like my mom. Whenever I get the chance to be around them, I want to soak it all in.”
He also gave credit to his late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, for teaching him that valuable lesson.
“[It’s] a quality I got from my mom, even though cell phones were not as prevalent as they are now, but back to that idea of her always being like, “You are the focus,”‘ he continued.
“I set my life up so I can be present with whatever the situation. The formative years, the young adults they’re going to become, I want to be there for them — or for her — whatever she’s going through.”
While James has had his share of small roles in movies and TV over the years, it was his tight connection with his younger sister that really put him in the spotlight. He used to tag along with her during awards season, leading up to her winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1999’s Girl, Interrupted.
But, here’s the thing – their super close bond sparked rumors. People got talking about their affectionate moments, like kissing on the mouth on the red carpet.
Jolie and Haven caused a bit of a stir back in 2000 when they shared a kiss on the lips right after she snagged her Oscar.
In her acceptance speech, Jolie spilled the beans, saying, “I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now. He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that.”
James cleared the air later, saying the whole thing got ‘misconstrued’ during all the buzz. Angelina joined in, trying to downplay the criticism by calling those kisses just a showing of ‘brotherly love.’
