The four couples that have been best friends for 20 years decided to build their little town to be closer to each other and the environment! Four tiny houses face the Llano river outside Austin, Texas. It’s called the ‘Llano Exit Strategy.
Matt Garcia designed the tiny homes to be as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. They cost around $40,000 each. They have slanted roofs with rain barrels that can hold 5,000 gallons of water, reflective walls to keep out the blazing Texas desert heat, and unique insulated windows. Wooden interiors keep costs down and give the homes a warm, spacious feeling.
They put their retirement plans on this property and go there as often as they can.
These four couples have been friends for 20 years, so they decided to make their tiny town.
To live together in a small and sustainable place, they pooled their money.
The cost of each of these homes is $40,000.
The 400 square foot cabins have a queen-sized bed, a couch, a bathroom, and a porch.
In the interior of the building, plywood was used – “it is a low-cost finish with a high level of design,” said architect Matt Garcia.
The roofs of these homes collect rainwater into water barrels that can hold up to 5,000 gallons.
It’s a magical place, but it’s arid. To preserve as much water as possible for the native trees and grasses, we are doing what we can,” said Fred Zipp, a resident
In the summer, the corrugated steel exterior helps to keep the interior cool by reflecting sunlight.
“It’s like being in a Disney film out here. There are hares, bobcats, deer, and many kinds of birds. “The more time we spend here, the more we find,” said resident Jodi Zipp
