Brad Pitt Defends Margot Robbie After Backlash over Unscripted Kiss in Babylon

The Suicide Squad actress came under fire after her candid interview with E! News in which she revealed that she convinced the director of her upcoming movie, Babylon, to kiss co-star Brad Pitt even though it wasn’t in the script.

Speaking to the media outlet, Robbie, 32, said, “That wasn’t in the script, but I thought, ‘When else am I gonna get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? I’m just gonna go for it.'”

“I said I think Nellie would just go up and kiss Jack… And Damien [the movie’s director] was like, ‘Well, she could- wait, hold on. You just wanna kiss Brad Pitt,’” she told E! News.

“I was like, ‘Oh, so sue me. This opportunity might never come up again.’ And he was like, ‘It does work for the character,’ and I was like, ‘I think so.'”

The actress said she kissed Brad for their scene, and she thought that’s it, they were done. But to her surprise, director Damien Chazelle asked her to do it again because he wanted it to be properly included in the movie.

“He was like, ‘No, do it again. That really works,'” she joked. “I was like, ‘Oh, great.'”

After her candid interview, Margot was criticized on social media when many people said that had it been the other way around and Brad asked the director if he could kiss Robbie even though it wasn’t in the script, there would be an outrage and people would call it ‘harassment.’

“Are we gonna let it slide as usual cos it’s involved a woman not a man? Y’all find it beautiful not harassment, right?” a user wrote on Twitter.

“Man would get cancelled for the same thing,” said another.

“So we’re ok with harassment when it’s women doing it??” another commented.

“She a 304… and if Brad Pitt did it he would have been cancelled,” another user commented.

“Now imagine if this was the other way around,” someone penned.

After the backlash, Margot told Entertainment Tonight in another interview that they are all good about the situation and people have been misunderstanding.

“We all established our boundaries before making this movie because it’s a movie that really pushes boundaries in a lot of ways. We’re all good.”

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the Die Hard actor said he was completely okay with the improvised kiss.

“There’s always room for character interpretation, he said. “Believe me, that’s the tamest thing she does in this. She’s on fire on this. It’s the best I’ve ever seen her.”

Previously the duo appeared together in 2019 in the film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and also in the 2015 movie, The Big Short.

Babylon is set to be released in the first week of January.

  1. Everyone needs to get over it.
You’re not an actor or actress and I know there’s a lot of improvisation when filming.
If he’s okay with it, everyone needs to chill out.
Have you ever been spontaneously kissed by someone?
I have several times. Most I was okay with but a few I had to tell them I was not feeling the Same way.
    Quit being so damn sensitive.
