Bride Says Her Cousin Wants to Reveal the Gender of Her Baby at Her Wedding

A bride-to-be was really upset when her pregnant my cousin wants to reveal the gender of her baby at her wedding. The couple had been eagerly planning their special day for nearly two years and were excited to celebrate with their loved ones.

However, the 25-year-old bride was taken aback by her cousin’s request. She felt it was unfair for her cousin to want the wedding to revolve around her and her unborn child instead of the couple’s big day.

“My fiancé and I have been dreaming of this perfect outdoor ceremony with all of our closest family and friends, and honestly, I couldn’t be more excited. But here’s where things get insane,” the bride shared her feelings on Reddit.

Out of nowhere, her 27-year-old cousin called her and said, “Hey, I was thinking, wouldn’t it be great to have the gender reveal at your wedding?”

The bride said she was left stunned and furious by the unexpected request.

“She starts going off about how perfect it would be to have a “big moment” where everyone finds out the gender during my reception and how I should “totally do a balloon release or confetti pop for her”. As if this is HER day!” she said.

According to the bride, she tried to be polite and explained that the wedding should be exclusively about the couple. However, the cousin didn’t take her explanation well.

“I thought she’d understand, but she got angry. She started accusing me of ‘stealing her joy,’ not being supportive, and called me ‘selfish’ for not wanting to share the spotlight on my wedding day,” the bride continued.

Now the whole family is split and arguing about the situation. Some believe the bride is being unreasonable and are trying to convince her to compromise, while others strongly disagree and think it’s inappropriate for the cousin to ask for a gender reveal at the wedding.

“So now I’m sitting here wondering am I the a**hole for not wanting a gender reveal to hijack my wedding?” she asked at the end of her post on reddit.

Over 3000 people flooded the bride’s comments section, and shared their opinions. Majority of the Redditors suggested that she should uninvite her cousin.

“Uninvite her. Tell any flying monkeys that, with no apologies whatsoever, this is your wedding and not her gender reveal. She is quite welcome to organise whatever event she wants for her gender reveal, but you are not allowing her to hijack your wedding so she doesn’t have to go to the trouble and expense,” said one.

“Uninviting is the only way. She will most certainly do it anyway, not to mention she will most definitely highjack the band/DJ and photographer. God knows what else,” commented another.

“Imagine planning a wedding for two years just for someone to turn it into a baby shower? Nah, your cousin can have her moment some other time, not on your big day,” a third wrote. Such moments are meant to celebrate love, not to compete with others’ life events. It’s like that recent drama where an influencer charges boyfriend for stays in her lavish home – it all feels a bit selfish when everyone should be focusing on the couple. Everyone deserves their spotlight, but on the wedding day, it should be all about the bride and groom.

“A wedding is about the couple getting married. So no proposals, no pregnancy announcements, and no wacky gender reveals,” remarked another.
