A caring father has spoken out against social media critics who disapproved of him kissing his five-year-old son on the lips. Tom, from Yorkshire (@tom_leeds), defended himself against comments suggesting that his actions might confuse his son, Roman.
Some people even claimed that this affectionate gesture could make his child more prone to cavities. Tom had posted a short video earlier this week where he shared a quick kiss with Roman while discussing their eye colors.
The video sparked a debate, but Tom stood firm, criticizing the negative comments and standing by his display of affection.
“Just gorgeous both, but don’t kiss him on the lips,” one person wrote.
“I will continue to kiss my son on the lips. Thank you,” Tom said in response.
In a follow-up video, the dad emphasized that he will keep showing his son affection if Roman is comfortable with it. Tom clarified that he values expressing love to his child and won’t let the negative comments change his behavior.
“I find it worrying that it bothers you,” He addressed the previous comment while speaking to viewers.
“I will kiss my son, my five-year-old child, on the lips for as long as I deem necessary and as long as he lets me, right, ’cause I love him to bits, and he’s my best pal, and one day he won’t want me to and he probably won’t want much to do with me. So, for now, I’ll carry on as I am.”
Most people cheered on the dad in the comments, but Tom had to talk about some other worries. One strange comment said that kissing your kid could give them more cavities because of germs.
“You can make your child more susceptible to cavities if you have them and kiss them,” the comment read.
Roman chimed in during the video response, saying, “That’s just silly.”
The dad’s annoyance was clear in his recent video, which has over 15,700 views, as he replied to a commenter advising against kissing.
“Don’t kiss your children on the lips fact. Because not all humans have the right intentions do you see what I’m saying? Don’t make it acceptable!” he wrote.
“So the logic here is, if I kiss my five-year-old, he will think that he can go off and it’s OK to kiss strangers, strange adults… obviously!” said Tom.
“So let’s apply that logic. I can’t have him in my car anymore to take him places because he could get in a stranger’s car and think that’s normal. He can’t live in my house anymore because – well, he could just walk in a stranger’s house and think that’s normal,” he added.
“Or we could, now hear me out, we could… teach him that he’s got a mummy and a daddy and kissing them is normal, but kissing dodgy Barry down the road is a bit weird.”
Many rushed to offer their support, encouraging the father to show his love for his children.
“If anyone sees anything other than a dad kissing his son, then they’re the ones we need to watch out for,” one person wrote.
“If someone thinks it’s wrong to kiss your child then they have issues that need questioned. No one will stop me giving my baby kisses,” added another.
