The stand-up comedian has finally spoken up about the 27-year age gap between him and his fiancée, Kelsi Taylor.
In an interview with E! on Tuesday, October 4, Cook said that he uses the huge age gap as ‘material’ for his comedy shows.
“She saw everything that I was working on for the show, and she was like, ‘Keep that in. I think that part will be great.’ There’s even some fun at our own expense,” he told E! News.
“We have a bit of an age difference, so it’s in the show, it’s in the show,” Cook added. “I have added a few jokes on our behalf to my show, ‘Dane Cook: Above It All.’”
“If we can’t laugh at it, then nobody else is allowed.”
The comedian further said that while marriage sometimes changes people and their lives completely, he believes his union with Kelsi would transform his shows as she inspires him incredibly.
“I was just trying some material out on her the other day where I was like, ‘Hey, I think I have maybe my first what-it’s-like-to-be-married joke,”‘ he added. “So, she got the exclusive. We tried it out and she said, “I approve of that. That’s a good one.”‘
Dane also shared that the new ways would attract more young people to attend concerts and comedy shows.
“I think it’ll change it in the way that I would always hope growing up with a generation of comedy fans. I was a college kid talking to, you know, college-age students. And to grow up with a generation of comedy fans, their kids are now coming to my show. I’m family oriented, and to be looking at that with Kelsey and our future and family, it’s like, all feels like the right timing.”
Two months ago, in August, People reported that the Good Luck Chuck actor proposed to Kelsie Taylor after five long years of dating her.
“I was so ready to ask her. I was completely zen about it. The evening of the proposal was incredibly beautiful, the weather was perfect, the sunset was spectacular, and I was just quite simply very happy.”
“I was asking my best friend, the woman who I’ve shared some of the greatest times of my life with, to marry me so we can start the next chapter our of lives together. I was also thinking of how absolutely stunning she looked.” He told People.
According to Daily Mail, Dane faced harsh criticism from fans when he first started dating Kelsie in 2018. She was only 18 back then, while Dane was 45 years old. The public wasn’t amused by him dating a teenager. In 2018, while talking about their more than 25-year-age gap, the actor said,
“The only thing you have to do is plan that your deaths will be somewhat far apart.”
The American Gods actor also dated Jessica Simpson and Nicole Scherzinger in the previous years before he finally met his current partner, Kelsie Taylor.
