Divorce was Never an Option for Will Smith and Jada Pinket-Smith – A Timeline of their ‘Evolved’ Relationship

Will Smith and Jada-Pinkett Smith make one of the most renowned couples in Hollywood; the two met in 1994 when the then-teenager Jada auditioned to play Smith’s girlfriend on the NBC sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

According to Insider, Jada didn’t get the role because she was not tall enough to play Will’s girlfriend.

“She’s 5-foot, and he’s 6-foot-2. The girlfriend role instead went to Nia Long.” She told Extra in 2017.

Will and Jada officially started dating in 1995 while the Focus actor was still married to his ex-wife, Sheree Zampino, with whom he shared a son named Trey.

Twenty years later, during one of her Red Table Talk Show episodes, Pinket-Smith confessed that she often felt guilty for initiating a romantic relationship with Smith While he was still married.

“Because I did not understand marriage, I did not understand divorce. I probably should have fallen back.”

The matrix actress further shared that she eventually got along with Zampino, and the reason was she and Will’s son, Trey.

“She was my entry point to motherhood. “I was co-mothering with her. At that particular time, before [having a blended family] was popular, we were trying to create something that we had never experienced before it was even an idea.”

In 1998 Jada and Will welcomed their eldest son child, Jaden, and in 2000, their daughter, Willow.

According to Us Weekly, the picture-perfect couple went through many problems in their relationship that involved so much drama.

In July 2020, the couple sat down together in one episode of Jada’s show Red Table Talk and talked about the ups and downs of their relationship.

“I was done with you, I was so done with you,” Will said while admitting that he and Jada split for some time in 2015. “Marriages have that though. We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time and you go figure out how to make yourself happy and I’ll try to figure out how to make myself happy. I really felt like we could be over.”

While they were separated for some time, Jada got along with the rapper August Alsina for a brief amount of time.

“The Girls Trip actress then got into a brief “entanglement” with Alsina, 27 — but it’s not something that Will holds over her head, since they were ‘separated amicably.’ Although she added she ‘just wanted to feel good’ with Alsina,” Us Weekly reported.

“I feel like that husband, like, I’m with you at the press conference,” said Will. “I love my baby, I’m gonna stand by my baby no matter what.”

In the same episode of Red Table Talk, the couple shared that despite their differences and numerous ups and downs in their relationship, ‘divorce’ was never an option for them.

“I wasn’t sure I was ever going to speak to you again. The fact that I’m speaking to you again is a miracle,” Will said to Jada. “I sure with it could be all magic and miracles. I’m gonna get you back.”

“I think you got me back! I think we’re good on that,” she responded.

At the end of the episode, the duo fist-bumped and quoted one of Will Smith’s iconic movie lines, “We ride together. We die together. Bad marriage for life.”
