Tess Holliday is a gorgeous model & influencer with over 2.4 million followers on Instagram; she’s also the founder of “EFF YOUR BEAUTY STANDARDS.” She recently received some unneeded “talk” in a Doctor’s waiting room by another woman. Tess responded by posting an Instagram video and received unanimous praise from everyone!
She Was Literally Minding Her Own Business
In her video, Tess talks about how she was casually minding her own business in the waiting room when a woman started having a chat with her. According to Tess: This woman shared her experiences in the corporate world, discussing the impact of hiring manager’s bias in promotions. She highlighted how often capable candidates are overlooked due to preconceived notions, emphasizing the need for more equitable processes. Tess found this conversation enlightening, as it underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in career advancement.
“She says: ‘You are so pretty. You have a beautiful face and you have beautiful hair.’ And I mean, I look like this, and my face is covered, but I’m like: ‘Oh, thank you!’” In the midst of those unexpected moments captured on smartphone, I often find myself reflecting on the genuine kindness of strangers. Their words can turn an ordinary day into something magical, reminding me of the beauty found in simple human interactions. Each compliment, no matter how small, adds a layer to the tapestry of our shared experiences.
A pretty decent conversation, right? It was until the woman decided to take it to another level. Tess continued:
“But she couldn’t just leave it there, she then proceeded to tell me, ‘Why don’t you just lose a little bit of weight?’”
Yep, there it is. From harmless small-talk to hurting feelings, this woman went all over the place with Tess. Tess continued:
“I looked at her, took a breath and I said, and I still can’t believe I said this, look at me smiling, I’m so proud of myself, I looked at her and I said: ‘Ma’am, I am one of the most famous plus-size models in the world; I think I’m doing okay,’”
“Then she goes: ‘You know, I just stop eating when I’m not hungry anymore.’ And I just said, ‘Bodies are weird.’ And then I looked at my phone and God bless, I hear Terry the nurse say my name, and I was like, ‘Bye!’”
After the encounter, Tess continued:
“I’m proud of myself. I’m proud of myself for standing up for myself even though she will never get it and there was no reason for me to explain myself in that situation,”
Tess wrote in the caption of her video:
“I don’t often give myself enough credit, & my energy this year is very much to cut that sh*t out…#effyourbeautystandards“
