Fans are Enraged as Henry Cavill isn’t Returning to Superman After Quitting The Witcher

A month and a half after announcing his exit from The Witcher, Henry Cavill now bids farewell to his role as Superman.

Taking to his Instagram on Wednesday, December 14, Henry announced that his turn to wear the cape has passed.

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” he shared with his 23.1 million followers.

“After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,” he continued. “The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build.”

The 39-year-old Man of Steel actor wished the new heads of DC Films the very best of luck and the happiest of fortunes.

“For those who have been by my side through the years, we can mourn for a bit,” he said. “But then we must remember…. Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there!”

“My turn to wear the cape has passed,” he concluded his post. “But what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards!”

Cavill’s announcement to leave the superhero role left his fans fuming, and millions of people shared their rage on social media that they are not at all happy with the decision.

At the end of October 2022, the Enola Holmes actor made a similar announcement about stepping down from playing the character of monster-hunting Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher.

“Some news to share from The Continent…” he wrote on Instagram on October 30.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4.”

He announced that he would be replaced by Australian actor and The Hunger Games alum Liam Hemsworth in the show.

“In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.”

“Liam, good sir,” Henry wrote. “This character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Fans who couldn’t get over the news of Henry leaving The Witcher are extremely heartbroken after learning that the British actor will not reprise his role as the last son of planet Krypton.

Shortly after Cavill’s statement on Instagram, the new DC Films head, James Gunn, took to Twitter and announced that he and Peter Safran have a new slate ready to go, and they are very excited about it.

Although their energy wasn’t reciprocated by the majority of people on the platform, and many even said that they are done with the DC movies.

Cavill first appeared as Superman in 2013 in DC Comics Man of Steel. The last time people saw him wearing the red cape was in October when he made a cameo appearance at the end of Warner Bros. movie, Black Adams.

Many assumed that the cameo was an indication that Henry is making a comeback on the big screen as Superman, but their hope bubble burst on Wednesday when the actor announced that the return wouldn’t happen.

We are sad that Mr. Cavill will not be returning to the big screen as Superman, and he won’t hunt any more evil monsters as the mighty Geralt of Rivia. But we hope to see him thriving in all his future endeavors. Onwards and Upwards!
