Among all of the news coming from Ukraine, this one is the most unbelievable and heartbreaking. Itβs about Hasan, heβs 11, and he had to flee on his own. As the conflict escalates, evacuation efforts in Ukraine have become increasingly urgent. Many families are torn apart, and children like Hasan are left to navigate these harrowing circumstances alone. The resilience of the people in Ukraine is truly inspiring, yet the toll of such desperate situations weighs heavily on all those affected.

He had nothing but a backpack, a passport, and a phone number written on his hand. His mother, Julia Pisecka Volodymyrivna, couldnβt leave with him because her mother was too old to travel.

Hasan traveled alone towards Slovakia β the distance he covered was more than 750 miles. The brave boy safely reached Slovakia, where officials saw the number on his hand and helped him instantly.

After traveling on his own for so long, the boy finally received care and help β he was given food and water. The officials contacted his family in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia, and had them take him.

Julia recorded an emotional video talking about her son and thanking Slovakia. According to The Sun, Julia said:
βI am a widow and I have more children.β
βI want to thank the Slovak customs and volunteers who took care of my son and helped him cross the border.β
βI am grateful you have saved my childβs life. Next to my town is a nuclear power plant that the Russians are shooting at.β
βI couldnβt leave my mother, she canβt move on her own.β
βPeople with a big heart live in your small country.β

The Interior Ministry of Slovakia also spoke about the brave boy:
βThe whole world has been touched by the story of this 11-year-old boy.
βMany took care of the boy, including police, soldiers, customs officers, volunteers and various religious or civilian organisations.
βThe boy was provided with transport to Bratislava to see his family.β
βHe is the biggest hero. With one plastic bag, a passport and a telephone number written on his hand, he came all alone because his mum had to stay.
βHe won over all the volunteers at the border.β
βThanks to the number on his hand and a piece of paper in his waist, he managed to contact his loved ones, who later came for him.β
βThe whole story ended well.β
The Sun also reported that Hasanβs siblings have successfully reached Slovakia. Eduard Filo, of the Association of Christian Youth Communities, spoke on working towards getting Julia and her mother to Slovakia:
βWeβre looking for ways to get his mum and his disabled grandmother to safety. Hasan and his siblings are safe in Slovakia.β
We are genuinely touched by the sheer bravery of this 11-year-old boy. He is a true hero!
