These are the couples with the kind of chemistry that is palpable. They have a romance that isn’t necessarily going to be perfect, but it’s definitely one that’s going to last.

Of course, relationships are going to need a lot of hard work, dedication, and commitment from all  parties involved if they’re going to last. A strong relationship isn’t necessarily going to be one that doesn’t experience problems or challenges. They are the relationships that have the strength, willpower, and determination to actually overcome these challenges. These are the relationships that are unfazed by any prospects of difficulty. These are the relationships with the kind of stability and confidence to really overcome whatever trials the universe decides to throw their way.

So what are the things that actually make a relationship strong? Well, it can be hard to consolidate everything into a single list like this, but this is just a general template. If your relationship doesn’t have a lot of these things, then you have some serious work to do to improve your romantic union.

1. Mutual trust.

Trust is always going to be important in a relationship. You must always be able to rely on one another. You always have to believe that you’re both going to have each other’s backs no matter what. You have to be able to trust in each other’s love.

2. Mutual respect.

At the base of any kind of relationship is always a foundation of respect. You must both be willing to acknowledge each other’s dignity as human beings. You have to be able to respect one another as individuals.

3. Solid friendship.

The best kinds of romances are those that are built on a solid friendship. Before anything else, you have to be good friends with your partner. You have to be able to enjoy one another’s company and you have to always be there for one another.

4. Healthy sense of humor.

A good sense of humor can go a long way in a relationship. Relationships can get very stressful but a healthy sense of humor can be very effective at diffusing tense and toxic situations.

5. Individuality and independence.

You have to be able to acknowledge that it takes two unique individuals to make up a relationship. You can’t let your relationship be what defines you as individuals. You have to respect that you are both two single entities who are choosing to live your individual lives alongside one another.

6. Sensitivity.

You must always be sensitive with how you conduct yourself in the relationship. You must always practice mindfulness of your partner’s feelings and emotions. You have to know how your words and your actions can impact your partner on both a physical and emotional capacity.

7. Growing passion.

A little passion isn’t going to hurt your chances at going all the way. In fact, the more passionate you are about one another, then the more invested you are going to become in your relationship. The better motivated the both of you will become to make things work.

8. Maturity.

Maturity is an often overlooked aspect of relationships. You must always be mature enough as individuals and as a couple in order for you to overcome any serious issues that might plague your relationship. Immature personalities can only destroy and deteriorate a romance.

9. Open and honest communication.

All relationships require free and open communication if they are to work out. The strongest couples always encourage free and open discussion about anything even if it’s inconvenient or uncomfortable. They know that they have to be free to talk about anything and they must always be honest with one another.
