Johnny Depp reveals he loves his quiet life in Somerset, where he resides on an 850-acre – Downton Abbey-style estate.
Speaking to a lifestyle magazine, Somerset Life, Depp said he’s a shy person and not the extrovert people think he is.
Following his bitter legal battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, Depp, 59, relocated to Somerset in Southwest England.
According to Daily Mail, “In 2014, he splashed £ 13 million on a Downton Abbey-style estate in the West Country, which boasts 12 bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and 850 acres.”
“The stunning abode, which looks like it has been taken straight out of a Jane Austen novel, also features sprawling walled gardens.”
In his new interview, The Beetlejuice actor said he loves staying away from the limelight.
“I just love places with character. British people are cool and will greet you as if you are a neighbor — without going over the top. I like going to places, seeing things, and meeting people — but I’m not the great extrovert that people think.”
“In truth, I’m quite a shy person. That’s one of the great things about Britain, and especially Somerset. I can just be me — and that’s nice,” he added.
“I can go into shops without being surrounded by people wanting selfies. I don’t mind that up to a point, but sometimes it gets a little too crowded.”
Despite being a shy person, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor had to stay in the limelight and massive media attention in the last few years especially, the last year when he and Amber Heard fought a bitter legal battle against each other in the Virginia Court.
The legal battle between the former couple ended on Wednesday, June 2, 2022. The trial continued for almost six weeks, and it was one of the most followed Hollywood trials on TV and social media.
In response to her 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post, actor Johnny Depp sued his ex-wife Amber Heard. The Aquaman star wrote that she survived domestic problems; she said she had been assaulted. Although she didn’t explicitly mention Johnny Depp’s name in her statement, it was quite evident since the two were married for almost a year and later got divorced.
Depp sued her for $50 million and claimed that his reputation had been tarnished because of Amber’s statements. He also said that he had been severely affected by Heard’s allegations. It was true as he was removed from the Pirates movie franchise and stopped getting any roles at all.
Amber Heard then countersued him for $100 million while claiming that the 58-year-old actor tried to defame her for being ‘honest’ about his toxic behavior.
