The Italian-American actress says that she only dated Kanye West so that he’d back off and leave his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, alone.
In a new TikTok video, the Uncut Gems actress explained that her relationship with the American rapper and controversial personality was not serious, and she only initiated it to help her pal, the SKIMS founder, Kim Kardashian.
The 32-year-old movie star and model was replying to a commenter who said they wished she weren’t dating a violent misogynist and anti-Semite.
“I was just going to write about it in my book and have y’all buy it, but I’ll just tell you guys for free,” she said while revealing that she has been working on her memoir, which she is going to release soon.
“Like, ‘Maybe I can distract him, like, just get him to like me,’” she added. “And I knew if anyone can do it, it’s me, because when I set my mind to something, I do it.”
Julia said she was a longtime fan of the reality star and her sisters Khloé and Kourtney Kardashian.
“When I had a fashion line 10 years ago, they actually bought our clothes and sold them in their [Dash] stores, so I’ve always had, like, a love for Kim. Like, the big three. Khloé, Kim, Kourtney, those are my girls.”
Julia said that the rapper used to text her often, but initially, she didn’t respond to his advances because she didn’t want to date a celebrity again.
“He was texting me. I wasn’t really answering,” she recalled. “I was like, ‘I don’t really want to hook up with a celebrity again.’ Like, nothing ever comes of it. … They’re kinda boring, like, they’re not what you think they’re going to be like.”
“But he kept going. … Then I had this thought,” the movie star explained. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, maybe I can get him off of Kim’s case. Maybe I can distract him and just get him to like me.’ And I knew if anyone can do it it’s me, because when I set my mind to something, I do it.”
According to Fox, the Flashing lights singer acted pretty ‘normal’ around her and even stopped bothering the makeup mogul while he was dating Julia.
“First of all, the man was being normal around me. By the time me and him got together, it was like he hadn’t been doing anything ‘out there’ yet.”
She added that during the first few weeks of their relationship, Kanye, who legally changed her name to Ye, wasn’t using Twitter or any other social media platform.
“He didn’t even talk about his relationship. We only talked about clothes and weird ideas and plans for the future and our hopes and dreams for childhood and education — it was really beautiful, guys. The moment he started tweeting, I was out.”
She continued, “I had already been like, ‘Dude, I’m not gonna stick around for this s–t.’”
Fox told her 1.3v million followers on TikTok that although she wanted to help Ye, she realized later that he didn’t want her help and that nothing could help him change.
“I was like, ‘I wanna help him! I wanna help him!’ I sounded almost as dumb as you guys saying that I should have done something to stop him from saying— like, what? But anyway, I was delusional and thought I could help him. Anyway, it didn’t work, and now we’re here.”
After the finalization of his divorce from ex-wife Kim Kardashian, West and Fox dated each other for a brief amount of time.
“Forming a bond in an unexpected place. Nearly one year after Kim Kardashian filed for divorce from Kanye West, the musician publicly moved on with Julia Fox,” Us Weekly wrote in March.
Earlier in September, Fox said in one of her interviews that her split with West was due to his red flags.
“It just seems like he had a lot to work on, and I just don’t have time for it or energy,” she told ES.
“The unresolved issues that he was dealing with. It just seems like he had a lot to work on, and I just don’t have time for it, or the energy. I don’t have the bandwidth or emotional capacity for it. I’m proud of myself for that.”
