Kentucky Woman, 98, With Over 230 Great-Great-Grandchildren, Met her Great-Great-Great-Grandchild for the First Time

Six generations of women posed for a sweet photo as the 98-year-old granny held her three-month-old great-great-great-granddaughter.

As reported by PEOPLE Magazine, Gracie Howell’s 98-year-old grandma has held hundreds of babies in her life, and recently she met the youngest member of her big family – her great-great-great-granddaughter Zhavia, who was born in December 2022.

“We thought this was special because it’s all girls,” she told the publication.

The heartwarming viral photo shows six generations of women together in one room, including grandma, MaeDell (Taylor) Hawkins, her daughter, Frances Snow, granddaughters Gracie Snow Howell, great-granddaughter Jacqueline Ledford, and great-great-granddaughter Jaisline Wilson, and great-great-great-granddaughter, Zhavia Whitaker.

According to Fox News, “Zhavia Whitaker met her great-great-great-grandmother, MaeDell Taylor Hawkins, at a nursing home residence in Kings Mountain, Kentucky, on Saturday, Feb. 18.”

Gracie said that her grandmother, MaeDell, will turn 99 in July this year, and even at this age, she is still “smart and tack.”

“At one point during the visit, Zhavia got a little fussy, at which point MaeDell, who now lives in a nursing home and stays in bed, swooped her right out of mama’s arms,” she told PEOPLE.

“We have a picture of her actually tickling her little feet,” she added. “Sweet moments.”

According to Gracie, her grandmother didn’t live a simple and easy life, but she has never heard her complain.

MaeDell, 98, got married to her first husband, Bill Taylor, when she was only 16 years old. They had a huge age gap between them as he was a 50-year-old railroad worker who was gone most of the week.

“In addition to being a stepmother to his 10 children, they also welcomed 13 kids together,” she told the outlet.

“She had no modern conveniences, no washer dryer, no dishwasher, no running water. I mean, I can remember I was a teenager and she still didn’t have running water,” said Gracie. “Still, she says her mother couldn’t recall ever going without a hot breakfast and supper — or not having clean clothes to wear.”

“I know she had it hard, but she didn’t complain,” says Gracie. “She just went about her day.”

The granddaughter added, “And over the years, the family kept growing. The next baby born will be no. 622. “It’s a big family.”

Gracie said that her grandmother has outlived all her husbands and all her stepchildren except one.

“She’s had a full life, I just love her.”
