Lily-Rose Depp Slams ‘Nepo Baby’ Claims and Calls Out People who think She’s only Famous because of Johnny Depp

Lily Rose Depp, an aspiring model, and actress has opened up about nepotism claims and struggles of growing up in the spotlight.

In a recent interview with Elle Magazine, the 23-year-old daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis rejected the notion that she is in the entertainment industry and getting roles because of her famous father and family connections.

“Nothing is going to get you the part except for being right for the part,” she told Elle. “The internet seems to care a lot about that kind of stuff. People are going to have preconceived ideas about you or how you got there, and I can definitely say that nothing is going to get you the part except for being right for the part.”

She added, “The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than the people who are casting you in things. Maybe you get your foot in the door, but you still just have your foot in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after that.”

Speaking to the publication’s December issue, the model said it’s easy for everyone to say that you are something because of your legacy, but nothing comes easy. Everyone struggles to make a name for themselves.

“It’s weird to me to reduce somebody to the idea that they’re only there because it’s a generational thing. It just doesn’t make any sense. If somebody’s mom or dad is a doctor, and then the kid becomes a doctor, you’re not going to be like, ‘Well, you’re only a doctor because your parent is a doctor.’ It’s like, ‘No, I went to medical school and trained.’ I just hear it a lot more about women, and I don’t think that it’s a coincidence.”

Lily, who’s all set to star in HBO’s upcoming drama series, The Idol also commented on her father’s famous trial against Amber Heard and said some things are so personal you don’t know how to deal with them when they become public, and everything about your life gets out there for everyone to watch.

“When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal … I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts.”

“I also think that I’m not here to answer for anybody, and I feel like, for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever. I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.”

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor shares daughter Lily Rose and son Jack with the French actress Vanessa Paradis. The couple remained together for fourteen years, never wed, and eventually parted ways in 2012.

During his court proceedings in April, the Beetlejuice actor mentioned that his daughter, Lily Rose, didn’t attend his wedding with Amber because the two were not on good terms.

“My daughter Lily-Rose did not come to the wedding. She and Ms. Heard were not on particularly great terms, for several reasons.”

When the Aquaman actress initially came forward with domestic violence allegations against Depp, both Paradis and Rose defended him and said he could never be that person who hurt others.

“It’s unbelievable… I have known Johnny for 25 years. We have been partners for 14 years, and we raised our two children together. Through all these years, I’ve known Johnny to be a kind, attentive, generous, and non-violent person and father.”

Meanwhile, Lily, who was 17 years old in 2016, wrote via her Instagram, “My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know. He’s been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same.”
