Aging like fine wine.
The 81-year-old business magnate and TV producer has become the oldest woman to ever appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit annual 2023 issue.
She was one of four models chosen by the publication – the other three cover stars included Megan Fox, Kim Petras, and Brooks Nader.
The founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia flaunted her stunning physique in ten different swimsuits and called ‘posing for the publication’ a historic moment for her and other older women.
“I don’t think about age very much, but I thought that this is kind of historic and that I better look really good,” she said.
She was photographed by the very talented photographer Ruven Afanador, a long-time contributor to Vogue, The New York Times, Elle, and Vanity Fair in the Punta Cana area of the Dominican Republic.
Speaking of her experience with the Magazine, Stewart said she doesn’t think much about age, but it was indeed a ‘big deal’ for her to be featured on the cover at her age.
When I heard that I was going to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, I thought, “Oh, that’s pretty good, I’m going to be the oldest person, I think, ever on a cover of Sports Illustrated,”‘ she said.
“Age is not the determining factor in terms of friendship or in terms of success, but what people do, how people think, how people act, that’s what’s important and not your age,” she added.
Ms. Stewart, who has also written numerous bestselling books and hosted two syndicated TV shows, also spoke to Today for an interview after her shoot and said it was a challenge for her.
“For me, it is a testament to good living”‘ she said. “I think that all of us should think about good living, successful living, and not about aging. The whole aging thing is so boring.”
The mum-of-one and grandmother of two also spoke about her fitness journey before the shoot and said she wanted to look her best on the cover of the magazine.
“I didn’t starve myself, but I didn’t eat any bread or pasta for a couple months. I went to Pilates every other day,” she admitted. “I live a clean life anyway. Good diet and good exercise and healthy skin care and all of that stuff, but it was kind of fun.”
Martha also joked that it was a little ‘odd’ to pose in front of everyone wearing the swimsuits, but it all turned out ‘OK’ in the end.
