Mel Columcille Gerard Gibson AO, professionally known as Mel Gibson, is an American actor and film director.
He is best known for his roles in the post-apocalyptic action series Mad Max and the cop action-film series, Lethal Weapon.
Throughout his acting career, Gibson has won several accolades, including two Academy Awards, Golden Globe Award, two People’s Choice Awards, and Critics Choice Award for best director for his blockbuster film, Braveheart.
His notable projects include Mad Max, Brave Heart, Lethal Weapon, Forever Young, Hacksaw Ridge, Apocalypto, Father Stu, On the Line, The Passion of the Christ, and The Patriot.
The award-winning actor and director married only once in his life. During the early years of his spotlight, Gibson tied the knot with Robyn Moore Gibson, who worked as a dental nurse, voice-over artist, and television personality.
In 1980 the couple welcomed their first child, daughter Hannah Gibson. The couple shares six other children together apart from Hannah, 42 – Christian, 40, Edward, 40, William, 37, Louis, 34, Milo, 31, and Thomas, 23.
Mel and Robyn parted ways in 2011 after 31 years of marriage.
The Braveheart alum then started going out with Russian pianist Oksana Grigorieva with whom he also shares one child, daughter Lucia, 13.
After calling it quits with Oksana in 2010, Gibson started dating his current partner, screenwriter Rosalind Ross.
The Mad Max actor welcomed his ninth child, son Lars with Rosalind in 2017.
“As a parent, everybody screws up,” he told The Sunday Times in an interview. “There’s no such thing as a perfect parent, and it’s so easy to mess up. But hopefully, I’ve screwed up less than most.”
Out of his nine children, Mel’s son Milo who is also an actor and is known for his roles in All the Devil’s Men, The Outpost, Hurricane, Breaking and Exiting, and Hacksaw Ridge, looks a lot like his father.
Milo started his acting career in 2016. So far, he has not won any awards but will surely win one in the near future as he follows in the footsteps of his amazing father.
“Something that stuck with me [that my dad told me] was, when you’re working, to be truthful to your character and emulate them as much as possible, and of course, have fun,” Milo said as Closer Weekly reported.
“Forget the camera is there. They say the camera is your best friend but I find it most helpful forgetting that it’s there, because if you’re aware of it you’re not being truthful to what you’re doing. So, [his advice was] to be honest.”
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview, the 32-year-old young Gibson said that his father has been very supportive of his acting career.
“My dad was always a big advocate of doing what you like to do, and keep doing new things and trying new things, but do what you love,” he told the outlet.
“And I did that. I had a lot of different jobs but they weren’t things that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. And I have a really big passion for acting and I really love doing it.”
During his interview with Good Morning America, Milo commented on his resemblance with his father and said,
“Sometimes people go, ‘Hey, you look like Mel Gibson!’ And I go, ‘F**k, I wish!’”
