An Australian mother went viral on TikTok after posting a video about how working is so much easier than staying at home and taking care of the kids all the time.
Sarah Torresan, who goes by the username @imperfectalignment on TikTok, posted a video and compared her days when she gets to work vs. the days she stays at home with her kids.
“Does the person who works outside the home need more sleep?” Sarah asked her followers.
“I feel like I’m qualified to speak to this because I have both working days and stay-at-home mom days, and I want to tell you something that the working parent probably doesn’t want stay-at-home parents to know,” she said.
“Going to work is so much easier than staying home with kids,” the young mama insisted.
Torresan explained how she gets to spend more quality time by herself, like listening to music or a long podcast while driving to work or simply enjoying a hot coffee with a coworker.
“I get to grab a coffee, walk through the city… I get to go to the office and have adult conversations with other people,” Sarah said.
“I work using parts of my brain that I haven’t used in a long time. Then I get to commute home again, listening to music or a podcast alone. And then I miss my kids and can’t wait to see them and they can’t wait to see me either.”
Then she compared this routine with the days she has to stay home with her kids all the time.
“On the flip side, when you are home alone with the kids with days on end you might go days without having a normal human conversation. From the second you open your eyes in the morning, until you close them at night, you are on. You are putting out fires over the most insanely irrational things.”
She continued, “It’s constant conflict. It’s constant everyone else’s needs. You’re being yelled at for things, it is all about what you need to do for someone else.”
Sarah said that she doesn’t even get to drink a hot cup of coffee on her days at home with her kids.
“Most stay-at-home parents would dream of sitting in the car for 45 minutes and listening to a podcast or drinking a hot coffee with a coworker,” she added.
“If I had a choice between staying at home with the kids or working after a rough night … I would choose a work day EVERY TIME,” she captioned her video which amassed more than 73K views on TikTok along with thousands of likes and comments from people, especially parents.
“Work is my paid break from SAHM job,” one parent commented on her video.
“The parent at home needs more sleep. Yes the other parent may work a more physical job but they get a full night sleep every god damn night,” a second added.
“Pretty true but also depends on the type of work the parent is doing too.. some jobs are a literal busy hell scape and there is no downtime between,” a third commented.
“I have a 5.30-9 kid job, 9-4 bank job & 4-8 kid job. My husband has a long commute, it’s mostly just me. Work is the break,” said another.
