Newlywed Man Killed After Bride’s Ex Gifted Them Home Theatre Music System Rigged With Bomb

A newlywed man and his brother was killed after a home theatre music system he received as a wedding gift exploded at their home.

According to reports, the incident took place in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, where a newlywed man and his brother died in a blast.

“Police said the gift was planted with explosives that went off as soon as it was plugged into power. While the groom died on the spot, his brother succumbed to injuries during treatment,” per BBC.

Police said the explosive-laden music system was allegedly sent by the bride’s ex-lover, who wanted the couple to die. The accused, identified as Sarju Markam, has been taken into custody.

Markam was angry at her ex-girlfriend for marrying another man, so he planned to kill the couple as an act of revenge.

According to BBC, “The accused, who has been identified as Sarju Markam from the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh, was arrested on Tuesday. Since he’s in custody, he’s not made any statements yet.”

“Four others, including an 18-month-boy, were injured in the explosion, which took place on 3 April at the groom’s home in Kabirdham district in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh.”

The intensity of the blast was so strong that it completely destroyed the house.

Sarju Markam, a 33-year-old man who’s reportedly married with two kids, was in a relationship with the 29-year-old bride and wanted to make her his second wife.

However, the bride’s parents refused and arranged her marriage somewhere else.

“Markam had initially lied to Merawi’s wife that he was not married. After she realized the truth, she refused to marry him. But he kept threatening her to marry him,” according to the police.

The family was thrilled to see the wedding gift that came with no name mentioned on it. Three days after the wedding, when the groom opened it and decided to turn it on, the music system exploded, blowing the roof and walls of the room to the ground.

“Markam fitted the bomb in the system and kept it below the mandap (platform) along with other gifts,” per Indian Express.

“The accused told the police that he had planted the explosive in the home theatre and gifted it to the newly married couple in a bid to kill them.”
