Kidman has recently shared insights into one of the emotionally conflicting moments of her illustrious career, which coincided with arguably her greatest victory amid a whirlwind of turmoil and sadness.
It’s known among fans that Kidman’s divorce from Cruise was finalized just before her Oscar win in 2003 for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours.
Cruise and Kidman, once celebrated as one of Hollywood’s power couples, adopted two children – Isabella, 31, and Connor, 28 – during their 11-year marriage. Unfortunately, their union came to an end.
The divorce proceedings coincided with a challenging period for Kidman, who had received an Academy Award nomination for her role in The Hours. “I went home and ended up ordering takeout and eating it on the floor of the Beverly Hills Hotel. I sat on the floor of the hotel eating French fries and a burger with my family and went to bed. That’s when it hit me. I went, I need to find my love; I need a love in my life. Because this is supposed to be when you go, ‘This is ours.”’
She continued, “I went to bed alone; I was in bed before midnight. If I ever won again, I’m telling you, I’d be out for 24 hours.”
Fortunately, Kidman’s journey took a positive turn. Five years after splitting from Cruise, who she was married to for 11 years, she married Keith Urban. Now 56, Kidman and Urban celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary last year. They have two daughters together, Sunday Rose, 14, and Faith Margaret, 12.
