Popular Waterfall Claims Life of 32-Year-Old Instagram Influencer

According to reports, a tragic incident occurred involving an Instagram influencer who lost her life while attempting to take a photo on the edge of a popular waterfall in Hong Kong.

Sofia Cheung, a 32-year-old, was hiking with friends at Ha Pak Lai Park on Saturday (local time) when they decided to pause and capture some pictures at a well-known scenic lookout.

While posing for a photograph on the ledge of Tsing Dai Stream near Yuen Long, Ms. Cheung, unfortunately, lost her balance and fell around five meters into the pool below, as stated by The Sun.

Immediately, her friends contacted emergency services, and Ms. Cheung was quickly rushed to a hospital in Hong Kong. Tragically, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Ms. Cheung, boasting over 6000 Instagram followers, gained a reputation for her daring endeavors, frequently embarking on treacherous climbs and hikes, documenting them through her online presence.

Her Instagram page is a visual chronicle, with snapshots showcasing her scaling mountains, clinging to cliff faces, and fearlessly perching on precarious vantage points.


Before the incident, Sofia had spent the entire day at Ha Pak Lai Nature Park accompanied by three friends, indulging in her passions as listed on her Instagram page: hiking, kayaking, exploration, outdoor sports, and photography.

As the day progressed, Sofia ventured to the summit of the waterfall to capture photographs, but tragically, she lost her footing and plunged into the water below.

Promptly, those present at the scene dialed 911, and paramedics swiftly transported Sofia to a hospital in Hong Kong. Regrettably, she was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Her Instagram feed carries the slogan, “Life should be fun, not dumb,” and her pictures vividly portray moments of joy and happiness.

Since posting her last image on July 9, which garnered an outpouring of sincere condolences, Sofia’s account, boasting 6,314 followers, has been inundated with an overwhelming display of heartfelt messages.

“I had hoped for brighter days ahead. I will deeply miss our daily conversations. I will always love you. Rest in peace, my beautiful Sofi.” One of her followers expressed in a heartfelt message.

Since the tragic incident, Sofia’s Instagram account, where she fearlessly shared her daring photographs, has experienced a staggering increase of over 600% in followers. This raises the question: why do people follow someone on Instagram after their passing?
