This year’s Oscars show was marred by controversy when Best Actor winner Will Smith trotted onstage and delivered a surprise smack to the face of comedian Chris Rock. The slap was done in response to a joke that Rock made about the shaved head of Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, who is suffering from a condition called Alopecia. Even before the night’s festivities had concluded, the world was abuzz with talks about the violent incident and the possible implications of such an event.
Stole the Show
However, in an almost miraculous fashion, singer-actress Rihanna stole the show at the Oscar after-party and managed to make the headlines about herself. More than that, her unborn baby managed to snag some of the spotlights. The mother-to-be definitely made some waves with the ensemble that she put together for Jay-Z’s Oscars after-party held at the Chateau Marmont.
The expectant mother will be welcoming her first child with rapper A$AP Rocky fairly soon, and it’s really showing with the size of her bump. The two had initially announced their pregnancy when the couple was photographed out in New York earlier this year. Rihanna debuted her visible baby bump with an oversized pink jacket that was open at the bottom just enough to reveal the bulge of the singer’s womb. In one of the photos, Rihanna walks hand-in-hand with Rocky as the two stare lovingly into each other’s eyes.
Serving Up Some Looks
Rihanna gave her fans a good look at her Oscars after-party outfit via her Instagram account, where she has more than 125 million followers, writing in the caption:
“Me and my date for Oscar Gold Party #bump22”.
The superstar was glowing in her custom sheer Valentino dress specifically designed for her by Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative director of the iconic fashion house. The singer sported elbow-length black sequined gloves that evoked a sense of class and elegance reminiscent of ‘50s Hollywood to go along with her gorgeous dress.
Rihanna didn’t make an appearance at the actual Academy Awards ceremony, but that didn’t stop her from being one of the biggest stories of the night. The singer has a reputation for living a relatively quiet and private lifestyle. But her outfit for the after-party was nothing but quiet, and for all the right reasons.
Some Controversy Abound
The night didn’t come without its fair share of controversy from the singer as he was reported to have crossed a picket line to attend the Jay-Z-hosted after party. Employees of the Chateau Marmont are currently locked in a protest after nearly half of the staff was laid off during the pandemic and were not given any severance or health benefits.
