The 30-year-old Love You like a Love Song singer speaks up after ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber, recently claimed that she didn’t steal Justin from Selena.
The 25-year-old model appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper and said that she was never the reason behind the Jelena split.
“People were obsessed with [Justin and Selena] being together. Were you ever with Justin romantically at the same time as her?” host Alex Cooper asked Hailey.
“No, not once,” she replied. “When he and I started hooking up, or anything of that sort, he was not in any relationship, It’s not my character to mess with someone’s relationship, I was raised better than that.”
“I understand how it looks from the outside, but that was a situation where I know for a fact that it was the right thing for [Justin and Selena] to close that door, but of course, there’s a very long history there, and I respect that a lot.”
“I don’t want to talk on either one of their behalf’s,” she said.
In response, Gomez, 30, spoke on a live clip on TikTok and said that people need to be kind and must not make ‘vile and disgusting’ comments on matters they don’t really know about.
“I think some of the things that I don’t even need to be aware of are just vile and disgusting. And it’s not fair because no one ever should be spoken to in the manner that I’ve seen.”
The Barney and Friends star indirectly referenced the hate comments that Hailey said she had received right from the beginning of her relationship with the Baby singer.
In her video, Gomez further said that she always preaches kindness and goodwill and her fans always support her, so it’s ironic that the same people who appreciate her motive lashed out hate at someone else because of her.
“It’s incredibly ironic that I would release something that is all about kind words ’cause that’s exactly what I want. That’s it.”
“If you support Rare, I cannot thank you enough but know that you are also representing what it means and that is words matter. Truly matter.”
“So it’s coming from me, and I just want all of you to know that I hope that you understand that this is much bigger than anything else. I’m really grateful to all of you for hearing me out, so have a wonderful rest of your day, and I appreciate all the love. Thank you,” she concluded.
Justin and Selena dated on and off for almost a decade, and fans were crazy about their union.
“The pop stars first met as young teenagers in 2009, after Bieber admitted that the ‘Good for You’ singer was his celebrity crush. Under the guise of close friends, the pair went on to quietly date for several months before making their public debut as a couple at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in February 2011,” per PEOPLE.
When the Canadian singer called it quits with Gomez in 2016 and started dating Hailey, Jelena fans slammed the model and called her the ‘reason’ behind their breakup.
