Single Dad Adopted a Girl With Down Syndrome After 20 Families Rejected Her

A young girl’s luck turned around after her mother and 20 families said no to adopting her.

The story of Luca Trapanese adopting baby Alba became very popular for many reasons. One big reason is that social services usually don’t let single, gay men adopt children. But they made a special rule for Luca, and we’re really glad they did.

According to the BBC, Luca, a 41-year-old man from Italy, wrote a book where he talks about how he became the dad of Alba, a girl with Down syndrome.

In a radio interview, Trapanese said his situation is unique because it breaks stereotypes about being a dad, religion, and family. In Italy, it has usually been difficult for gay and single people to adopt children.

“I was told that I’d only be given a child with an illness, a severe disability or with behavioral problems,” he told the news outlet. “I was absolutely OK with that.”

Luca became Alba’s adoptive father back in 2017 when she was only 13 days old and had already been turned down by 20 families due to her condition.

“She brought me happiness and a sense of fulfilment. I am proud to be her dad,” said Luca.

Luca had a strong desire to become a father, fueled by his experience working in various care centers for people with special needs. His journey towards helping others began at the age of 14, after losing his closest friend to cancer. He dedicated his time to volunteering for organizations associated with the Catholic church, offering assistance to individuals who were critically ill or disabled.

Even though he didn’t have a partner, Luca decided to pursue the adoption of Alba. Today, she lives happily with her father in their loving home.

The BBC reported that Alba is a spirited young child who can sometimes be a bit stubborn. She adores playing and dancing, and she delights in the company of others.

“It was the first time I’d held a newborn baby. Before that moment, I had always been scared. But, when I first held Alba, I knew I was ready to be her dad,” he added. “I was overcome with joy. I felt she was my daughter straight away.”

It’s been a while since Luca and Alba captured everyone’s hearts with their wonderful bond. However, fans can still keep up with their daily adventures and life through Luca’s Instagram account, where he has over 320,000 followers.

The duo enjoys spending quality time together, filling their days with plenty of joy and laughter. While the pandemic has brought changes to their lives, their loving relationship continues to inspire. They cherish outdoor activities, exploring different parts of Italy, painting, meeting friends, and simply enjoying each other’s company.
