Motherhood isn’t a walk in the park; it’s challenging and demanding. How a mother chooses to raise her child is solely her decision, it’s up to her to raise them and nurture them.
Today’s story comes from Texas, USA. A mother who’s a certified lactation counselor posted a video talking about how she plans to breastfeed her baby daughter until she’s six. Upon receiving a lot of negativity and trolling on TikTok, she responded, and people came to her support.
A Mother’s Decision
Jacy Campbell is a 20-year-old lactation counselor and mother who went viral on TikTok when she shared her decision on breastfeeding her daughter until the age of 6. She also shared how it’s healthy.
But people flocked from all over to comment on the video on how it’s inappropriate for the child. Some of those comments were:
“Your child will fully resent you for it in the future”
“You’d have to be one sick mf to plan to breastfeed until she’s six.”
“no 😭 if your child is old enough to remember that’s too old.”
“At this point there’s something wrong with the parent.”
The Mother Responds
After all of the mean and hateful comments on TikTok, Jacy responded in a video while replying to one of the commenters.
She explained how it’s okay and healthy for babies to feed off their mothers till the age of 6; there’s nothing inappropriate about a child feeding off a mother. According to Jacy:
“Extended breast feeding is not sexual assault, there’s nothing sexual about a child eating.”
“Just because you sexualise breasts doesn’t mean a child does.”
“A child is eating, they use you for nourishment.”
In addition to the video, commented to explain her point.
“There are a plethora of health benefits for mom/baby and quite frankly I don’t feel like I have to justify it to you based on your rude comment”
People Finally Come to Her Support
After a slew of spiteful comments, many people came to defend Jacy and told their own stories on breastfeeding. Here are some of the supportive comments on her video:
“My mom has pics of me and I love them lol! They’re cute. I was a hungry maniac lol”
“What is wrong with people? A child is not sexualizing their primary food source…”
“🥰 yes mama! what we call extended here in the US is normal around the world. just b/c we want mothers to go back to work faster among other reasons”
“Ugh. I hate people like that. Why even think that??? Comments like that make some moms not even want to breastfeed. It’s a beautiful thing 🥺”
Jacy is a strong and loving mother who knows how to nurture her daughter, and we’re glad she stood her ground regardless of the trolls and the hate. As long as your child grows up happy and healthy, no one can tell a mother what to do with their children.
