Trevor Noah is Leaving The Daily Show and Viewers have Mixed Responses to Share

Trevor Noah is a renowned actor, comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, and TV host from South Africa, best known for his satirical news show, The Daily Show on Comedy Central.

Noah has won various awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award from eleven nominations throughout his career.

Recently, the 38-year-old announced that he would bid farewell to the flagship Comedy Central Series, which he has been hosting for the last seven years.

The Daily Show is a late-night American satirical talk show which began airing in 1996.

On Thursday, September 29, Noah shared the news of his exit from the show leaving the audience astonished.

“It’s been wild,” he said. “I remember when we first started, so many people thought it was a crazy bet, I still think it was a crazy choice, this random African… what a journey it’s been. It’s been absolutely amazing.”

“After the seven years, my time is up. In the most beautiful way. I’ve loved hosting this show.”

Noah, who took over the satirical news show back in 2015 from former host Jon Stewart noted in his speech that he has come a long way in the past seven years and will forever be thankful for this journey.

“It has grown all around the world. I am filled with gratitude for the journey. It is something that I never expected,” the primetime Emmy Award winner continued.

“I realized that after seven years my time is up but in the most beautiful way. I’ve loved hosting the show. It has been one of my greatest challenges and greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even on the worst days. We’ve laughed together. We’ve cried together. After seven years I believe it’s time.”

The South African native further added that after leaving the news show, he wants to continue with his life, enjoy it to the fullest, and do all the things he loves and hasn’t done in a long time.

“I spent two years in my apartment, not on the road and when I got out there again I realized there is another part of my life I want to carry on exploring.”

“I miss learning languages, going to other countries putting on shows. I am really grateful to everyone. It’s a weird thing to say. I’ve never been good at goodbyes.”

At the end of his lengthy speech, Trevor thanked his audience for listening to his talks and appreciating him throughout his tenure.

“I am grateful to a network who believed in this random comedian who nobody knew. I want to say thank you to everyone who listened and came to see the show. I never dreamed I would be here. I came in for a tour of the previous show and the next thing I knew I was handed the keys.”

Following the news of him saying goodbye to The Daily Show, many people on social media shared their responses, with some saying that it’s not sad news overall.

“Trevor Noah is leaving the Daily Show. Reports say he wants to try something NEW, like comedy,” one person wrote on Twitter.

“Trevor Noah was never funny on The Daily Show. He had big shoes to fill and understandably failed dismally. Maybe things stopped being funny when there was no more Zuma to attack. Who knows? Hopefully, he does better wherever he ends up. All the best to him,” said another.

However, some disagreed with the narrative of Noah not being funny on the show.

“The only people who say Trevor Noah wasn’t funny, insightful, or impactful as a Daily Show host are people who haven’t watched a single episode of his show in the last 5 years,” someone wrote.

“Have you noticed how most people who say Trevor Noah is not funny on the Daily Show somehow almost always supports Jacob Zuma or Donald Trump? It’s like their political alignment suppresses their funny side. You not liking the subject matter doesn’t make it unfunny,” another commented.
