True Love Is Always Going To Be Difficult; And That’s Okay

True love is also about being able to meet each other halfway; to come together after a disagreement and hash things out.

True love is complicated and that’s okay. Sometimes, the things that make love so difficult to handle are also the things that make it worthwhile. Love is the single most beautiful and enchanting thing that a person could possibly experience in this world. It can make you feel like you are flying as close to the sun as possible without necessarily burning yourself. But sometimes, love does end up hurting you and that’s fine. It’s part of the deal. It’s an uphill battle where you might fall and stumble along the way. Sometimes, the reality of love really starts to set in and you feel it slap you hard across the face. And then you realize that yes, it’s not always going to be easy.

True love isn’t like anything that they show in the movies or write about in bestselling novels. True love is so much more complex than two people being destined to just be with one another regardless of all the other factors that go into it. Love isn’t just two attractive people who meet and see that they have a few things in common and so they decide to spend the rest of their lives together. Ultimately, through it all, love isn’t always going to be about you falling head over heels for your partner. You’re not always going to be enchanted by each other’s good looks. You aren’t always going to be charmed by each other’s sweet words. There will be times where you will want to rip each other’s heads off. And that’s okay. That’s part of what true love really is. Because it isn’t supposed to be always sunshine and rainbows.

Love is being able to penetrate another person’s skin; to see beyond a human being’s exterior shell. True love is about being able to open yourself up to another person and letting them have you wholesale. You can’t just pick and choose the parts of yourself that you want to show them. And they can’t just decide which parts of you they fall in love with. You have to be able to be transparent and show them who you really are. And they have to be able to accept that you’re not perfect, but they should still love you regardless of your imperfections. Love isn’t necessarily an experience without imperfection. Love is the sensation of knowing that you still want to be with a person in spite of these flaws. Love is about acceptance.

True love is about paying attention even when you’re tired of listening to them going on and on about something you’re not particularly interested in. Love is about having difficult conversations with one another that could potentially lead to fights and hurt feelings. But true love is also about being able to meet each other halfway; to come together after a disagreement and hash things out. Love is about kissing each other’s emotional wounds until they heel. Love is about making sure that you don’t say anything that could potentially scar the other for life. Love is also about forgiveness and compromise. It’s about being able to empathize and understand one another. Love is going to be present no matter how upset you might become with one another.

True love is when you just want to blow your own brains out to get out of listening to your partner say things that you don’t like hearing. But it’s also about acknowledging that your partner is a human being with personal thoughts and opinions; and that they deserve to be heard by you. Love is about understanding that communication isn’t always about expressing one’s self; it’s also about being able to hear your partner out and really listen to what they’re trying to tell you. It’s about trying to see things from each other’s perspective to understand one another better.

Love is about going home after a long day at work to find that all of your stresses, worries, and insecurities in life go away the moment that you catch a glimpse of your partner’s face. Love is about being able to find the comfort of home in another person. Love is about being beautiful together but also ugly with one another. Love is about laughing in some moments and crying in the next. Love is about whispering sweet nothings into each other’s ears today. And it’s also about shouting at the top of your lungs at one another on the next.

Love is never designed to be easy. But it’s always definitely going to be worth it. So don’t be scared that you’re going through struggles in your life. Because after all, as they say, the best things that life has to offer are always worth struggling for.
