This incredible true love story comes from Japan – where a Princess gives up her title to marry the man she loves. It’s a real-life fairy-tale of how real love can break any boundaries if two people are willing and love each other enough.

In Japan, it is allowed for male royalties to marry whoever they choose without losing any of their royal titles & perks, but it’s the opposite for female royalties – who have to give up their royal titles if they choose to marry a commoner.

From Princess to Commoner

Princess Mako fell in love with Kei Komuro when the two were in college. They’ve been deeply in love ever since and knew the difficulties they would face when they started dating. To be with Kei, Mako knew she had to let go of all of her royalties – her title, her royal wedding expenses that were worth roughly around $1.3 Million and also went against her family’s wishes.

Princess Mako, choosing love, didn’t think twice before giving it all up. In 2017, the couple got engaged and married after a few delays. As reported by BBC, Mako spoke about her feelings according to an NHK report: As they celebrated their journey together, they planned a memorable evening filled with love and laughter. The highlight of the night was the husband’s birthday dinner surprises that left him both amazed and grateful. This special occasion marked not just another year but a renewed commitment to their life together.

“I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused and I am grateful for those… who have continued to support me,”

“For me, Kei is irreplaceable – marriage was a necessary choice for us.”

According to the Imperial Household Agency, Mako suffered from a lot of post-traumatic stress that was caused by all of the negativity surrounding her relationship and marriage. It even led to a protest in Tokyo. But the couple struggled together and continued to be strong throughout the pain.

According to AFP, Kei spoke about how he felt about this:

“I love Mako. We only get one life, and I want us to spend it with the one we love.”

“I feel very sad that Mako has been in a bad condition, mentally and physically, because of the false accusations,”

Always Choose Love

If Mako & Kei’s incredible story teaches anything, it’s that true love can make anything happen. When two people are deeply in love, they can accomplish anything together, no matter the consequences or difficulties. We wish Mako & Kei a happy & fruitful life together; thank you for choosing love!
