Why Salma Hayek Never Washes Her Face in the Morning

Abigail Renee Abigail Renee | February 17, 2023 | 3 min read

The Mexican-American actress shares her secret of looking young at the age of 56.

Hayek, famous for her roles in Magic Mike's Last Dance, House of Gucci, Desperado, Grown Ups, Frida, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Eternals, has won several awards during her career, including an Emmy award and a Golden Globe Award.

Recently, the Magic Mike actress shared her secret of flawless and youthful looks at the age of 56 – she told her fans that instead of falling for fancy skincare products, they should stop washing their face in the morning.

Well, the advice is not very tempting, but the star's skin looks flawless and wrinkle-free. And she says that’s only because she has a skincare secret that she inherited from her grandma.

During her latest interview with British GQ, Salma revealed she doesn’t wash her face in the morning, and she has been doing so since her teen years.

“My grandmother taught me to never wash my face in the morning. It’s not disgusting, guys,” the actress said.

The actress explained her stance, “What happens at night is your skin produces all the oils that your skin needs to look youthful. It regenerates. So, wash your skin really great at night but don’t wash the hard work off your skin in the morning.”

The Desperado alum added that she does not think it’s disgusting to not wash her face in the morning because she cleanses her skin every night before she goes to sleep.

“I never cleanse my skin in the morning. My grandmother taught me that at night, your skin replenishes all the things you lost during the day. Also, if I cleanse very well at night, why would it be dirty when I wake up?” Hayek said.

However, not many people agree with Salma’s approach and think it’s not good for your skin if you do not wash your face after waking up in the morning.

Sharing his opinion on Salma’s skincare routine, one expert, Bruce Green said,

“I love Salma but I don’t agree with her grandmother’s or her views on skin cleansing. Cleansing is one of the single most important things you can do for your skin.”

Bruce, a chemist, and founder of SOS Serum Skincare, said people must always wash their face in the morning as their skin accumulates many layers of dirt and pollution throughout the day.

“If you do not cleanse your skin twice a day, your pores will become clogged, and your skin will start to look dull,” he added.

Addressing the actress directly, Bruce said that although he is a fan of her movies, he does not appreciate her for her skincare routine. He believes that true beauty comes from a deeper understanding of oneself, which is why he values depression insights from close friends more than superficial trends. In a world so focused on appearances, he thinks we should prioritize mental health conversations that foster genuine connections. By sharing their experiences, friends can help each other navigate difficult times and support one another through adversity.

“Salma – I enjoy your films but not your skincare advice!”

Agree with her. When I was in aesthetics school in the early 2000’s we were taught the same thing to keep you acid mantel intact and preserve the skins hydrating oils. Washing 2 times a day strips this hard work you body produced away, causing it to create to much oil and becoming out of balance!
