Woman Claims She is in an Erotic Relationship with an OAK Tree

A woman named Sonja Semyonova, 45, identifies as an ‘ecosexual’ and claims to have an ‘erotic’ connection with an oak tree. Despite feeling lonely in the past, she believes that her newfound relationship with the tree has filled a void. As a self-intimacy guide, Sonja expresses that the emotions she shares with the tree are the kind she has always sought in a human connection.

Sonja, residing in Vancouver Island, British Columbia, shared, “The presence I feel with the tree is what I’m looking for but that’s a fantasy with a person.” She described the sensation as “feeling tiny and supported by something so solid. The feeling of not being able to fall.”

“I had been craving that rush of erotic energy that comes when you meet a new partner, and that is not sustainable.”

Sonja, who moved to Vancouver Island in Canada in the winter of 2020, started taking daily walks during lockdown. While walking, she would pass a large oak tree near her home, and in the summer of 2021, she began having ‘erotic’ experiences.

Describing the connection, she said, “I was walking a path near the tree five days a week for the whole winter. I noticed a connection with the tree. I would lie against it. There was an eroticism with something so big and so old holding my back.”

Sonja emphasizes that she doesn’t engage in physical acts with the tree, clarifying that the feelings she experiences from nature are not necessarily equivalent to human sexuality.

“A big misconception is that ecosexuality means sex between people and nature, it’s a different way to explore the erotic. To watch the changing of the seasons is to me an erotic act. You go from death in winter and then everything comes alive in spring and mates.”

She added, “There are similarities between sex with people and the eroticism ecosexuals feel with nature, but they’re not the same.”

Sonja holds the belief that everyone is an ecosexual, asserting that if people recognize this within themselves, it could contribute to solving climate issues. She suggests that the connection between humans and nature, often experienced during activities like picnics and hikes, is rooted in tapping into the life force, akin to the erotic. She also advocates for a more symbiotic and potentially erotic relationship with nature, seeing potential benefits from such connections.

“It’s already present in a lot of people. There’s a reason we want to go for picnics in parks and hike in nature. What we fail to notice is that the reason we want this is to tap in to the life force that comes from these things, which is the erotic,” she concluded. “I believe that we could gain from having a more symbiotic relationship with nature, that relationship could definitely be erotic.”
