Every now and then, we come across incredible stories of couples who break the barriers of normality and live amazing lives. Today’s story is about an adventurous couple, in their 50s, who are living on cruise ships and have no plans of moving back to living on land. They travel all around the globe, meet new people, and eat good food – and all of it comes cheaper than a mortgage.
Cruise Forever
Angelyn Burk & Richard share an unbreakable love for the open sea – which made them instantly fall in love with each other. Angelyn took her first cruise in 1992, and she dreamt of cruising forever. Seems like the couple finally made their dreams come true.
While speaking to 7News, Angelyn spoke about it:
“We really enjoy cruising and being able to visit different parts of the world without hopping on an airplane,”
Angelyn is a 53-year-old accountant who figured out the numbers and decided to take this big step with Richard. They sold their home in Seattle, U.S.A., and accumulated enough savings to live life cruising.
The couple has been cruising since May 2021 and has no plans to stop. She told 7Life all about her life and plans:
“Our original plan was to stay in different countries for a month at a time and eventually retire to cruise ships as we got older,”
“We love to travel and we were searching for a way to continuously travel in our retirement that made financial sense.”
“We have been frugal all our lives to save and invest in order to achieve our goal,”
“We are not into materialistic things but experiences.”
“We don’t plan to permanently live on land in the future,”
And about anyone who wants to do the same, Angelyn has some advice:
“I believe this is achievable for the everyday cruiser, but it does take effort,”
She also spoke about how cruising is an easier way to travel because it takes away all of the hassles that come with traveling. She said:
“It is leisurely travel without the complications of booking hotels, restaurants and transportation, while staying within our budget.”
Their favorite destination is Singapore and they have more plans to travel far and wide in the near future. We wish this couple safe sailing and hope they live their dreams with each other forever!
