A Place in the Sun Star Jonnie Irwin Shares his Dying Wish After Terminal Cancer Diagnosis

English television presenter Jonnie Irwin has revealed his dying wish after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

In a new interview with Hello Magazine, the 49-year-old Irwin reflected on his life and shared his dying wish for his three boys after he is gone.

“I had a tough upbringing and I’ve managed to do a lot in my life, despite that, but I don’t want them to struggle,” he told Hello! Magazine

“I want them to have the confidence of a public school boy, but also be streetwise lads. They’re happy kids, they laugh, and are a lot of fun to have around.”

The A Place in the Sun star was first diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020. The deadly cancer has spread to his brain now.

The presenter, who shares three children with his wife Jessica Holmes, 40, also explained why they have kept his illness a secret from his boys, Rex, 6, and twins Cormac and Rafa, 2.

“I keep being asked, “Are you going to tell them?” but tell them what? It would be horrible news that they’d have to get their heads around,” he said.

“And it would confuse the hell out of Rex – he’s got a shocking enough day coming. Let’s bury our heads in the sand for as long as possible.”

The TV presenter has been working hard despite his poor health condition because he ‘doesn’t have critical illness cover over his illness,’ per Daily Mail.

“I really want to be at home and Jess is fine with that. And apparently, I’ll go peacefully when I do go. I’ll just require more and more sleep,” Jonnie said in the interview.

“I want to make memories and capture these moments with my family because the reality is, my boys are going to grow up not knowing their dad and that breaks my heart.”

Jonnie has been undergoing brain therapy which he said ‘is extremely brutal.’

“In hospital this week monitoring a changeover in my pain management regime.”

Despite his wish to spend as much as possible with his wife and his children, Irwin often removes himself from the house and stays in the hospice.

“I remove myself on a number of occasions because I’m not good to be around when I’m in pain,” he said. “I’m like a bear with a sore head and I don’t want them [the family] to be around that.”

    P. S. Watched loads of your place in the sun series and thought you was a very nice man in that aswell.

  2. I pray that God allows you lots of pain free days to spend with your precious family for as long as possible. I pray that they find a cure for this horrible disease. God took back one of my sons in 2008 due to liver cancer, he was 34. God did not want him to suffer needlessly. I pray for your boys and your wife in the weeks, months and years to come. You will not be forgotten. His brothers and I always talk about him and remember all the good times we had and we miss him everyday. We will all meet again one day and what a rejoicing reunion that will be. Hugs and prayers to you and your family💕🙏💕🙏💕🙏
