What’s in a name? Well, a lot of money, apparently. The famous philosopher Socrates once said, “Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly be possessed of.” That should certainly be the case for the clients of Taylor Humphrey, a professional baby namer.

For Taylor, names are significant and should be given more attention than most parents typically do.

“Our choices — even the names we choose for our babies — have cosmic significance. The little people we create, the way we raise and shape them, is the gift we give to the future. What do you choose to bring forth? What legacy are you offering to our descendants?”

This is what Humphrey says on her What’s in a Baby Name website’s landing page. Humphrey describes her business as a “bespoke consulting firm with an intuitive holistic approach” to naming babies. She further stresses the importance of choosing a baby’s name on her site.

“Selecting a moniker for your little one is a creative decision with life-long implications, and sometimes parents have trouble picking ‘the perfect name’ for their newborn.”

Humphrey has also amassed a social media following due to her profession. She now has more than 46,000 followers on TikTok and 28,000 followers on Instagram, where she talks about a variety of topics, including baby-naming and Reiki philosophy.

A Peculiar Job

The Daily Mail Online recently ran a story about Humphrey and her peculiar profession that has managed to serve her well financially. The 33-year-old charges a minimum of $1,500 for her bespoke baby-naming services. But the price for her services can go as high as $30,000, depending on the parameters of a given job.

She originally got the idea to start this company in 2015 when she discovered her passion behind discovering the meaning of baby names and their numerological significance. She started sharing her discoveries on social media and developed a strong following for herself.

In 2108, Humphrey finally decided to launch her baby-naming business while training as a doula. In 2021 alone, Humphrey was commissioned to name more than 100 babies while also offering her counseling services to her parents.

How Does She Do It?

Humphrey may not have kids of her own, but she has developed a specific system that helps her with her creative process of naming kids for her clients. To get inspired, Humphreys claims that she looks at the beauty of the mundane things that most people take for granted.

In fact, she’s managed to draw inspiration from film credits and street signs for her clients. And it seems like her customers have been delighted given her success and rising popularity.
